ABOUT ME

I am intensely silly and hate to take things seriously, but I think sincerity and the courage to be unironic about one's passions is the coolest thing in the world. I find almost everything interesting, and I love listening to people talk about things they understand really well. I think of myself as good-natured, easygoing, and flexible. I also try to pretend I'm the prim, proper lady my mother tried so hard to raise me to be, but that never lasts long: as soon as I think we're friends, you'll discover I am a font of dirty jokes with a foul mouth and a very loud, frequent laugh.

I like dogs. And cats. And any animal at all.

I have a lot of completely unnecessary experience handling all kinds of livestock. It makes me extraordinarily happy. I can tell you more about cows than you would ever expect anyone to care.

PHILOSOPHY

We have a responsibility to give as much to the world as we can. Whether our wealth is in our talents, our spirit, our possessions, or our capability to help each other, we must share it. We receive so much from each other — it would be simply ungracious to not return the favor however we can.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been a surfer, then took a long hiatus while my life was in serious flux; now that I've settled down some, I'm ready to be back in the network and at the very least show my city off to visitors.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't surfed nearly as much as I'd like to. But the experiences I did have were so great, I prefer surfing to hostels or hotels. I learned way more about the cities I surfed than the ones I didn't.

Music, Movies, and Books

I will happily watch good movies or bad movies, and love them for different reasons. I like to watch bad movies and love them sincerely for what they're trying to be. I like to watch good movies and be awed by their genius.

I love books, and I read nonstop and variously. The subject matter can be anything as long as it's written interestingly. I keep a massive spreadsheet of everything I've read this year so I can remember my favorites.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was in Hungary when the Berlin wall fell. There was a lot of discussion as to whether my family and I would be able to leave the country, for reasons my mother has never made 100% clear.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have tons and tons of mildly useful trivia; it would be useless if it weren't for pub trivia nights. I'm also pretty crafty and I climb rocks pretty well.
