About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To seek out new life and new civilisations, to boldly go where I have never gone before!

ABOUT ME

I am interested in the world around me (as any good traveller should be), and as I am teaching about it to students in the UK as a Geography Teacher, I feel it is beneficial to see as much of the world as I possibly can, by seeing it, feeling it, and thoroughly experiencing and enjoying it so that when I return I can add to my students knowledge through the knowledge I have gained on my travels. To make me a better me through ensuring that my students have the chance to make them and the world around them a better place.

Beyond that, I am interested in seeing the world myself (probably why I enjoy teaching Geography!), and am interested in other countries, the environment, different cultures and the world in general.

PHILOSOPHY

Smile, it could be worse!

Never aim to be "normal"! As normal is just average, and who would want to just be average!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

4 years in a multi-cultural environment at university started me off on allowing a range of people to just crash at my place. At the moment, I am unable to offer a bed to anyone. Although I hope I can offer a place for people to stay in the future once I have a fixed base.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfed around Washington and Oregon State, USA, and thoroughly enjoyed the variety of people I got to meet that were happy and willing to open up their homes to me. I am hoping to be able to open up my couch when I have a fixed base in the future, as well as enjoy the experience of CSing during my future travels.

Interests

I am a Scout Leader who loves to be out in the great outdoors; I sail and teach others how to sail; I love to dance and listen to a eclectic mix of music; I enjoy reading and doing arts and craft projects; I enjoy skiing, hiking, kayaking, and more; I enjoy doing a wide range of activities and I am willing to give new experiences a go as well.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: An eclectic mix... from rock, pop and folk, to indie, classical and dance music!
Movies: Mainly comedy and science fiction movies, but also action, adventure, fantasy and many more!
Books: A range of genres, from fantasy, sci-fi and comedies, to informative and historical, and a range in between!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So far... competed at the World and European Laser Radial Championship for GBR in Riva del Garda, Lake Garda, Italy - my current personal highlight, with helping at the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics in the Sailing Team being a close second (due to my childhood dream/aim of being in the 2012 Olympics)... I plan to add numerous more from my travels in the foreseeable future.

During my travels, I have done and seen many great things, too many to list here, from randomly getting invited into a family's house, taken on a tour of their village, just because we drove down the wrong road to get to an ancient ruin whilst in Turkey, to seeing an Antelope give birth whilst in the Maasai Mara, to finding Nemo and Crush (the sea turtle) whilst Scuba Diving in the Indian Ocean, to sailing on both sides of North America, helping at an Orphanage in Kenya, hiking around the Amazon Rainforest, exploring Angkor Wat, swimming in the water near an active volcano in New Zealand, and many more!

Teach, Learn, Share

Depends on who I CS with... from helping improve a non-English speaker's English language skills, to other random things - I can be quite creative at times, cooking Spaghetti Bolognese (not so good for the non-omnivores out there, but a veggie option can be made available on request), how to sail - if a boat is available, etc.
