About Me

I am curious, enthusiastic and open. I work part-time in secondary schools, alongside studying a part-time Masters in Creative Writing. Writing is a huge part of my life and am also interested in the relationship between writing and community. I have facilitated creative writing workshops for various participants and I run a non-profit organisation that encourages the creativity of survivors of sexual and domestic abuse.
Some of my best experiences have been while travelling (of course!) but my main hobbies at home are in the arts - reading and writing, going to galleries and watching films. I love to eat out and am (very) keen to enjoy local cuisine!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In 2015 I studied for a year in the USA and coachsurfed while travelling (through a friend's account). It was a lovely way to get to know a new place - through the local people who lived there. Trips and activities that my coachsurfing hosts took us on were some of the best experiences I had, particularly as I would have never done them otherwise! I am looking forward to meeting people from across the world, learning about their lives, and sharing their experiences of their hometowns.

I have used couchsurfing both as a guest and a host.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of my favourite films include Moonlight, Mommy and Fantastic Mr Fox and some of my favourite TV shows are Mad Men, Peep Show, Broad City, Fargo and RuPaul's Drag Race.

I read all the time and have a lot of favourite books! I enjoy American literature and have loved Catch 22, A Scanner Darkly, The Anthologist, Native Son and Their Eyes Were Watching God, to name a few. I read a lot of poetry and particularly try to keep up with contemporary poets in Scotland and further afield, having spent a lot of time with the American Modernists in the past. I enjoy books that experiment and push boundaries. In the past couple of months, my favourite novels have been POND by Claire Louise Bennett, One D.O.A and One On the Way by Mary Robison and Kleinzeit by Russel Hoben.

My favourite musicians include Jack White, James Blake, Frank Ocean, Amy Winehouse, St Vincent and Chance the Rapper. I love going to see live music and exploring local music scenes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I managed to sit through the whole of Garden State, Zach Braff's seminal masterpiece.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am hoping to exchange perspectives and experiences!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am happy to cook and help out with dishes (I am very tidy!) and I am looking forward to lots of interesting conversations.
