About Me

I love sharing stories and connecting with people. I'm fascinated by other cultures, and some of my best memories and learning experiences have come from interacting with people from different countries.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been a part of CS since the summer of 2011 and have had nothing but fabulous experiences with this community. I've also traveled and hosted as part of a similar group called Servas. Awesome experiences include:

-Cooking up a Mexican fiesta for a lovely family in their beautiful restored farmhouse just outside Barcelona... taking their dogs for a walk in the mountains, and being inspired to hunker down and learn Spanish.

-Singing Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" numerous times for my Tico friends in Costa Rica. Note to self: learn more MJ and Celine Dion tunes before going back to Central America.

-Making a delicious, healthy pasta dish for my Servas host in CR and watching in horror as the family scooped mounds of white rice onto my pasta.

-Hosting a summer BBQ for a cute Danish couple on a road trip through the US.

Notice how 3 out of 4 of these experience are food related...

Music, Movies, and Books

Films I like: American Beauty L'auberge Espagnole, and Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations (not a movie but full of food and culture. love it.)

Reading pleasures: On Beauty, Middlesex, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, David Sedaris, and recipes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I briefly had a side hustle as a pasta instructor in grad school.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could talk your ear off about food... I'm into cooking in a big way. Lately I've been into making a ton of vegetarian soups and Indian dishes. I can bust out some awesome desserts too. I'm also really interested in food justice and issues like sustainable eating and food access. I have a lot more to learn but am fascinated by the intersections of food, politics, and culture.

I'm always up for sharing my music finds and hearing others' favorites.

And of course, travel recommendations/stories are always much appreciated.
