Overview
About Me
Greetings, for you whom has ended up reading these lines !
My name is Emeric and I'm a French guy.
I am currently taking a kind of sabbatical year in Japan to practice kendo, the Japanese martial art of swordsmanship.
I am a curious person, I like to know and try to understand people, to have conversations and to discover the craziness (sometimes small, sometimes bigger) we all have.
Like a children fascinated by the world, I like to ask questions and to listen attentively the answers ; but don't worry : I hope I know as well the quiet virtue of silence.
Nb : please note that because I am currently living in Japan for one year, I may not be able to host you in my address in France but if you're in a rush or with no plan, write to me and I might make you in contact with my housemates whom will be able to help and host you.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Even if it's sometimes more difficult than just booking a room somewhere, I like to try to do things in a different way.
Moreover, through couchsurfing , we meet people we would probably haven't met with another mean, right ?
For me, Couchsurfing can be about the possibility of helping people and being helped.
So why not giving us the chance to meet ?
Interests
I dedicate a big part of my free time for the practice of kendo, I like the way it provides me the opportunity of personal growing, the research for the perfect movement and the virtues it carries.
Beyond this, I'm also focused on eloquence : how people can not only communicate but also being convincing.
I like to write speeches, to listen from others, to defend and to support them, doesn't matter if I am the speaker or part of the audience.
I do believe that both martial arts and eloquence can be ways that lead people to self confidence and, in a smaller degree, wellness as well.
(But I also know there is plenty of others activities which can have the same effects) !
Music, Movies, and Books
I like all kind of rock musics, French traditional musics, musics from the world, alternative musics.
I'm also always interested by discovering new musics.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
When I spend one month deep in Peru's part of the amazonian forest.
I lived with locals and foreigners for many countries and also...with a half-wild, sneaky and smart monkey !
Teach, Learn, Share
"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning how to dance in the rain"
I am eager to learn many things ! But I do have a stronger interest for topics like lifestyle, human being, communication, social stuff, etc.
I will for sure share the small knowledge I have with you and sometimes some shared fresh beers can make me think about even more stuff ! ;)
What I Can Share with Hosts
Even if we may not meet, I would like to share a poem I really love and which inspires me everyday : Youth, from Samuel Ullman.
Youth is not a time of life - it is a state of mind,
it is a temper of the will,
a quality of the imagination,
a vigor of the emotions,
a predominance of courage over timidity,
of the appetite for adventure over love of ease.
Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years.
People grow old only by deserting their ideals.
Years wrinkle the skin,
but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.
Worry, doubt, self-distrust,
fear and despair - these are the long,
long years that bow the head and
turn the growing spirit back to dust.
Whether they are sixteen or seventy,
there is in every being's heart
the love of wonder,
the sweet amazement at the stars
and starlike things and thoughts,
the undaunted challenge of events,
the unfailing childlike appetite
for what is to come next,
and the joy and the game of life.
You are as young as your faith,
as old as your doubt;
as young as your self-confidence,
as old as your fear,
as young as your hope,
as old as your despair.
When the wires are all down
and all the innermost core of your heart
is covered with the snows of pessimism
and the ice of cynicism,
then you are grown old indeed.
But so long as your heart receives messages
of beauty, cheer, courage, grandeur
and power from the earth,
from man and from the Infinite,
so long you are young.
