About Me

Hey I'm Emil!!
I recently moved out of my apartment, and went on exchange, so I unfortunately cannot host anybody at the moment :(

I'm a computer scientist, programmer, I like making video games, but most of all, I love traveling!

I've spent a lot of time abroad, my first exchange was in Colombia, later I've been working in Germany and Sweden, and then I did a second exchange in Mexico. I love learning languages (I'm a huge nerd about it), but also just seeing what's out in the world, how people think differently in different parts, and opening my eyes to new perspectives, and ways to live.

I feel like the longer I'm traveling, the more minimalistic I become. I'm seeing more and more, which things I really need, and which things really matter in life.

Curious things I've done are working for the Red Cross (Zivildienst - alternative to military service in my country), going to the northernmost parts of Sweden to experience real winter, jump in a frozen lake, and climb a mountain with a bunch of strangers in Poland.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like the experience of meeting people who live in a different place and speak another language, and I think you can always learn something new from everyone. Whenever I'm abroad, I think you can be much more immersed, when getting to know a new person, as well as share some of my own experiences, beliefs, and my culture.

Interests

My interests represent my hobbies, but I'm interested in a lot of different topics, so I usually don't have troubles having a nice conversation.

  • dancing
  • cooking
  • music
  • cycling
  • hiking
  • sports
  • languages
  • programming
  • game development
  • science and technology

Music, Movies, and Books

I play the piano and I like to listen to a lot of different styles of music, mostly indie, and when relaxing, some music from video games. Recently, I read Cien Años De Soledad (A Hundred Years of Solitude), and The Handmaid's Tale for a literature course, and I also like to watch good movies, just that I often don't have the time to do so :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I always love to talk about languages. I'm happy to teach you a funny phrase or two in German, or help you practice English, Spanish, etc. I think you never stop learning in life.
Also, I can give you some advice on how to travel a lot without spending much, exploiting less, and leaving your comfort zone, and would also love to receive yours! ✨

What I Can Share with Hosts

I think I'm a sociable guy and very thankful guy, that is up for all fun activities there are. I'm happy to share parts of my culture, have deep talks about the beauty of the world, different views, the problems of the 21st century, and how we can try to make a difference :)

I like cooking and would love to make some Austrian dessert for you 😋
If you need any help with chores, housework I am happy to help, of course!
