About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Looking for people to meet in South-East Asia!So excited to see Thailand, Indonesia and hopefully some other countries :)

ABOUT ME

We are a couple who share the passion for traveling, movies, music, history and culture. Here's some basic facts about us:

Emilia: I'm open minded, tolerant, social, curious, bit-shy, bit-wild, adventurous-still-homey-person, talkative, contradictory, wild-imagination, and I sometimes worrie too much if the creatures I care for are ok or not...have this nurturing thing you know?:)
Good things about me: Being positive and empathetic Bad things about me: Bad sleeper, bit too sensitive at times.

Niko: Secural monk, diplomatic thinker.

PHILOSOPHY

Emilia: Never stop growing as a person, living life to the fullest, Hakuna matata :)

Niko: Evolve and adventure

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We're new to CS but we want to surf and host in future, and we can also show you around in Helsinki.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Emilia: Been hosted once and it was great! Peopl can be so kind and generous, it amazes me :)

We also hosted once this spring, it was our first experience and very good one! We will continue hosting people next autumn after we return from our Asia-trip.

Interests

Emilia: I love long chats with good friends, good movies and books, great music (new wave, 80s', indie, alternative, pop&rock, etc.), culture in its all great forms, animals (cats, whales, primates and hedgehogs have special place in my heart), this planet, nature, people, mysterys and of course traveling! Yoga, swimming, diving (haven't tried it yet though).

Niko: Music, motion pictures, traveling, arts, architecture, history, nature, japanese arts & culture, photography.

Music: Dead Can Dance, Kate Bush, Japan, The Cure, Peter Gabriel, U2, John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Arvo Pärt, Erik Satie, Billie Holiday, Nick Cave, The Arcade Fire, Anna Ternheim, Sigur Ros, Dimitri Shostakovich, Jean Sibelius etc.

Books: The Momins, Harry Potter series, Lord of the rings, various biographies and many great novels.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Emilia: Well for some people my experiences in Finland's nature and finnish summercottage could be exotic. Staying in hot sauna as long as you're red and sweaty and then diving into cool lake/river/sea: it's my favourite thing in my homecountry.
Japan was amazingly visual and estetic.

Teach, Learn, Share

Emilia: I can teach you a bit of cooking, singing or speaking finnish :D
I would like to learn different languages, diving, more about yoga.

Okey, I just wrote some tips for people who visit Helsinki. Thease tips are about areas called "Töölö" and "Kallio". I hope people can get some interesting experiences and see something NEW in Helsinki. Guidebooks can be boring sometimes...
Ask if you wanna know something spesific :)

TÖÖLÖ - this is quite near the citycenter and quite expensive area (I mean for us locals - the rents are high etc.):

* Eat fullfilling continental breakfast or just enjoy cup of cappucino at this nice cafe called "Tintin tango" (http://www.tintintango.info/yhteystiedot.php)

* If you feel like walking in the park, try the "Sibelius park" nearby: There is this famous monument, made in the honour of our most beloved composer Jean Sibelius.

* If you need internet, go to LIBRARY in Töölö (http://www.lib.hel.fi/en-GB/toolo/) - I think if you go to the info desk, tell that you are visitor and have no library card, they can give you password so you can use internet for free.. I hope! Im not sure, but ask and try :)

*Right in front of the Opera House runs one of the biggest streets in Helsinki called Mannerheimintie. In front of Opera house you can catch tram and go few stops to center where you can find restaurants, movies theaters, shopping centers. If you feel like beeing in a crowded shopping center, go to Kamppi.

KALLIO: is a place we're you can see students, working class people and also the poor and the alcoholic: so you can see some real life! I think most tourist don't go to this kind of places:

* If you wanna see more bohemian side of Helsinki take tram number 8 from the Opera and go to direction of ARABIA, it will take you to Kallio area:
*On your way you can hop off at "Linnanmäki" which is our amusement park.

*You can also hop off at "Helsingin katu" stop, where you can find this small and really UNIQUE small cafe called "Villi Puutarha"

* Right next to this cafe is public Sauna (you know we finnish people love having bath and relaxing in hot saunas) called ARLA. I haven't visited this place, cause I have other places to have sauna. But it used to be tradition in Finland to go to this kind of place. It costs you 10€, take own towel. Or 8€ if you are student.

* If you feel like relaxing you can also visit public swimming pool, so you can hop off at "Urheilutalo" stop.
Take your own swimsuit and towel, if you don't have it you can rent it (2-5€). For student swimming, takings shower and sauna is really cheap, only 2,80€. For adult its around 5€.

Here's some things to start with :)

Countries I’ve Visited
