ABOUT ME

I am 42 and I live on my own in a small flat in Rome, and would love to share my space with other travellers. I am a middle school teacher (Italian and History, and italian language for foreign speakers) and accordion and piano player. I enjoy both things (teaching and music) a lot.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hadn't forget any single person I met on my journeys. From the engeneer from Milan I met on the train to Amsterdam in 1993 who thought me how beautiful and enriching is travelling alone, the girl I met while I was lost in london and who let me stay in her home, the korean girl and the australian - italian women I met in the magic ancient city of ani, the anarchist in Brussel and his girlfriend who opened me the doors of their home after we just met, all those people have been friends just for a few hours or a couple of days and I don't even remember their names, but they all shared a part of their history with me. The people you meet on your journey never let you down.
That's why I partecipate to CS.

Interessen

I play accordion a lot and played a while trombone and now mostly piano. I have been playing classical music, balcan and italian traditional, jazz, I am not so good as I would like but music is a continous process. I teach kids, and I like it very much. I like staying with 11-15 age range, not so easy always, but I like children a lot. Now, I am teaching to adults, and I like that, too. I teach italian to migrant workers, and this give me the opportunity to meet people from all over the world not moving from my neighbourhood. I love hiking, but I don't do it as often as I would like. I go cycling sometimes, and I like travelling by bike. I like history and art. I wish I could write a novel someday. I like languages, and I am always considering learning German, Turkish, Romanian, Russian and Arabic, so far I only know a few words in all of those languages.
And I fall in love very easly, with everything I don't know about.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

When I was a kid, I liked classical music a lot. Then I discovered Bob Dylan, who is still the artist I find most ispiring. At 16, I liked Queen, Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen. In my 20s, I liked alternative rock. Then I discoverd Nick Drake, Van Morrison, Tom Waits. And another artist I find very ispiring is Morrisey (and the smiths).
Besides, now I listen to balkan and kletzmer music, because this i the music I like to play on the accordion. And I listen a lot to traditional music, especially from the mediterrenean area.
Now I play balkan music with the accordion, Jazz Standards and Johan Sebastian Bach on the piano (the latter is very hard!)
I read a lot of books, but my tastes are very diverse: I like the classics, like anna karenina or one houndred years of solitude, I like Umberto Eco, I like the latin and the greeks, I read a lot of graphic novels (Satrapi, Bilal, Moebius/Jodorowski, Joe Sacco), Books of social anthropology, History, I like Tiziano Terzani, I like philip Dick and Manuel Scorza.
And I go to the cinema as well, sometimes more often, sometimes less.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I know the history of Rome quite well, as I like history and art, and I can guide you both to the big turist attraction or to lesser known (even to roman residents) places you may find interesting. To know Rome a lifetime is not enough, as they say, and there are many places I have never been to. But this town never stops to amaze me.
I am also an italian teacher, so I can teach a little bit of italian.
If you are a musician, i would like to have a jam with you.
