About Me

I am a simple person and a student of philosophy for life. I don't only study though: I want to travel and exchange ideas and good times with others (this means you!).

There are so many ideas and people...

Not enough time!

PHILOSOPHY:

-Accentuate the positive (don't deny the negative)

-Listen to others and listen well.

-Take joy in how interconnected things are whether they are animals, people, or atoms.

-Specialize in order to share knowledge, but learn widely! This involves traveling, reading the latest books in entrepreneurship, Aristotle, or mastering house dancing techniques.

-Also, listen to and consider the other side of every argument.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Experiential learning is amazing! It's the stuff of life honestly. CS is a sharing economy that creates thriving people. I want to thrive and help others thrive in any way that I can.

Interests

I try to write music for piano and guitar. If you have either instrument I'll play for you if you want.

I try to read widely. For example in the wall of text below I talk about one thing I'm reading widely about:

I am currently reading stuff in the discipline of economic history. Apparently there are different accounts of the cause behind what Deride McCloskey calls the "great enrichment" or the period in history where overall income per head, adjusted for inflation, increased almost magically by a factor of 16. Some argue that the causes are primarily material (capital stacked on capital brick by brick). Others argue otherwise that a rhetorical and ideological change occurred that allowed for innovation. I'm looking at the evidence, literary, philosophical and economic for myself and its crazy stuff.

Music, Movies, and Books

THE ARTS ARE GREAT!

I LOVE BOSSA NOVA. I also welcome all kinds of music. Right now what comes to mind is Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Hiromi Uehara, David Bowie,
D'angelo, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, the Roots, Digable Planets, Y Society, Chubb Rock (Ok maybe I only listen to Tret em' right), Open Mike Eagle, even the young Chance the rapper, Towkio , Joey bad$$, and other fools who composed music like Bach and Alkan.

At a certain point I wanted to compose music for movies so I love soundtracks too.

Books are like food:
Doctor Zhivago - Boris Pasternak, The Idiot - Dostoevsky, Galapagos - Kurt Vonnegut, Short Stories - Anton Chekhov, Life and Fate - Vasily Grossman, Kokoro -Natusme Souseki

Movies like Eraserhead, Ran, Ikiru, Relatos Salavajes, and El Topo are pretty nice too.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- I spent last semester teaching philosophy at a public school in my area. To me its amazing how capable young people are of practicing philosophy.

-I am a nerd who in high-school I spent my time reading instead of hanging out with friends and finished approximately several hundred books in those 4 years. I admit that I skimmed some but I really invested my time into reading those books. I have to make up for lost time though

I tried to make a list here if your curious:

Teach, Learn, Share

What I would like to learn:

-I want to know you and what you are passionate and care about

- I want to talk about that and hopefully learn something about the place where you live too.

-Now that I think about it I want to know what you think the good life is too!

I wish for all of these things but please feel no obligation to tell me if its tiresome. I want to talk about whatever comes up organically. Haha!

What I Can Share with Hosts

-I will dance for you
-I will help with chores or anything you need because I'm deeply grateful for all hosts.
-I love to exchange knowledge and could talk in depth about topics ranging from different cultures to feminism to economic history! to to to to!
-I'm not the best cook but I'm willing to help! (I'm not totally clueless).

Also don't feel like you have to babysit if you need to do other things. I am disposed to what ever is of your best convenience! I don't want to use CS for the wrong reasons and will do everything I can not to put stress on you if things are rough.
