ABOUT ME
Sun-loving prairie girl who digs birds, books, mail, and rolling around in the grass on a lazy day. I'm a homebody when I'm at home, and a sponge for beautiful vistas and random encounters when I'm on the road.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I surf couches. People surf mine.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I first lived in a hosting housefold in 2009-2010 and loved the experience, meeting tons of really interesting people, from rock bands to blacksmiths to rockin' feminist counselors, and having a lot of fun. Pancakes in the morning was always a highlight!
Since moving to Vancouver, our couch seems to have been occupied more often than not, both by couchsurfers from parts unknown and by friends and family. I haven't actively hosted any CSers since last summer (2011) due to a move and a change in my employment status.
I've also met a some really rad people through Couchsurfing while traveling in South America and Malaysia!
Interests
I love making and reading zines, watching birds do bird things, spending quality time with a good book (or a friend, or both) in the hammock, and walking walking walking around. I'm interested in Eastern European history and languages, disability studies, feminism and all that radness, the dewey decimal system, and vegan cooking wizardry... though I've yet to turn down a plate of cheesy cheesy nachos.
I send and receive mail(-art) like the internet never happened.
And with everything, always: coffee.

Music, Movies, and Books
Recommendations happily received and given!
These days, short stories by Mavis Gallant and Ivan E. Coyote and Lydia Davis are rocking my world (and eating up my commute time), and I always love a zine or two in the back pocket. And, oh Russian studies hangover, I'm madly in love with Dostoyevsky (and am accepting of all transliterations of his name).
Bruce Peninsula and tune-yards and Anne Murray are getting lots of turntable time at my house.
Movies I always come back to are Brat (aka Brother, the Balabanov film), New Waterford Girl, Love That Boy, and anything David Attenborough has lent his golden gravelly pipes to.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Rolling around in the grass with my best friend in Kitchener and picking radishes from my wee little garden in Vancouver have both been great moments for me.
