About Me

Hello future friends!

***See below for important things to know when traveling to Los Alamos***

Severn and I have recently settled in the US after spending a year cycling around Europe and Northern Africa. We met all kinds of people on our journey via Couchsurfing, WarmShowers (our account is under Severn Anderson), hanging out in central squares, talking to baristas, fixing flat bike tires, etc. We are so grateful for our new and expansive network of truly amazing friends! Isn't that what traveling is all about?

We live in a little house in Los Alamos, New Mexico and are eager to pay it forward to whoever dares scale the mesas of the Valles Caldera and experience the Atomic City!

-- For Surfers --
Our schedules are pretty flexible, so we will do our best to accommodate your arrival times! Also, if your plans change or you're unsure about when/if you want to stay with us, that's ok! We are happy to send you alternative driving directions, secret lookout points, local breweries to checkout, food suggestions, and more. :)

-- For Hosts --
We appreciate a couch, a floor, or even a yard for camping! We will probably be traveling with bicycles and request that you have a safe place to store them. Also, based on past experiences, we will probably offer to make you pancakes. Sev is lactose intolerant and Em is allergic to crustaceans!

-- A little more about us --
I studied industrial design and sustainability at uni because I want to use creative thinking to make the world a better place. I also studied Spanish and German because communication is key and I'm a linguaphile. Sev studied physics and materials science and math because he's fascinated by the way the world works. We both have spent quite a bit of time volunteering on permaculture farms. We'll happily chat with you about anything. From growing and cooking food, etymology, art, documentaries, adventures, economics, brewing, and more.

We are born travelers and eagerly spend every waking moment itching for the next adventure. But if we already have plans, we might just invite you along!

We try to live as sustainably as possible! We are far from perfect but we try to do our best and are super happy to hear new ideas! For example, we bike rather than drive whenever possible, we sustain a mostly vegan kitchen (but outside our kitchen we are open to pretty much everything), support local agriculture with a CSA, and try to buy package free/bulk/second hand.

-- Important stuff to know when traveling to Los Alamos --
If you visit Bandelier National Monument before driving into town, or get here via the caldera on NM-4, Google maps will direct you through the high security gate for the Los Alamos National Laboratory (https://goo.gl/maps/thygwzMQdWBY6m716). Don't worry, though. There are ways around the gate, but also visitors are allowed through. It's kind of a thrilling experience. Just follow your GPS directions and be nice to the guards. You'll need to show your ID (and possibly your passport if non-US) and there is a chance your car will be randomly searched. Most importantly, make sure not to have firearms, illegal substances, or even UNOPENED alcohol containers in your car!!!

Two ways to bypass the gate:
1) Go through the canyon via West Rd: https://goo.gl/maps/XwWXidFxnmhCJRBr5
2) Take the hill: https://goo.gl/maps/MMfiZP2eoYEjGayA6
