My name is Emily and I’m a student at the University of Sydney! I grew up in sunny little Singapore to an Anglo-Australian father and a Malaysian-Chinese mother. Most of my relatives live in Kuala Terrenganu/Pahang in Malaysia as well as Brisbane and Bundaberg in Queensland. After spending 18 years in Singapore, I was quite ready to leave for uni but it is indeed a very vibrant, fast-paced and exciting city. The thing I love most about asia is the cheap, yummy and spicy hawker food. The city literally never sleeps and many of my best memories from home comprise late night roti prata/dim sum/nasi lemak after a night out.

My chinese name is 陈湄鹂 (pronounced as chen mei li) I have a tattoo of this on the left side of my waist which I got before coming to Australia because I wanted to always remember the special connection which I have to asia despite moving away for university. My name, ‘mei li’, translates to little yellow bird by the yellow river, and it was given to me by my grandma in the hope that I would always be free and have access to the resources (i.e. the beautiful river) to pursue my dreams.

I am currently an exchange student at the University of Pennsylvania and I have fully been immersing myself in the vast magnitude of experiences that the US has to offer! :-)
