I am an outgoing, friendly person. I love meeting new people and traveling the world! I am trying to become fluent in Spanish, and have spent some time in Central America. I live with my wonderful boyfriend of 6 years, Eric, and our awesome dog, Parker. I work at a middle school with kids with special needs as a paraprofessional. I also work part-time at my dad's brewery and pub, Rock & Run, as a bartender and manager, and as a freelance photographer...I like to keep busy!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have become interested in couch surfing after a friend told me "it will change your life when you travel!" As I said above, I LOVE to travel, it is my favorite thing to do, and I love to meet new people. This will hopefully give me a better opportunity to do both of those things. I also think it would be a lot of fun to stay with locals when I travel to get a better perspective on where I am, and be able to do the same for others when they come to my home town!

Interests

I love traveling (of course) and being outside! I like to play disc golf, hike, run, ride bikes, do yoga, walk my dog, take pictures, explore...I also love music of all kinds, playing games, reading, theatre and am a huge Anthropology/science in general geek! I love to learn and the study of humans and our past (recent and VERY distant) is fascinating to me.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to pretty much any kind of music except country. I love rock, rap, reggae, jazz, classical (I love to go to the symphony, and KC has an awesome new symphony hall!)....I really enjoy going to outdoor concerts. Some of my favorite bands right now are the Gorillaz, K'Naan, John Lennon, Muse, anything by Jack White, Mumford & Sons, Alt J, Lauryn Hill, Bob Marley, Brother Ali, and the list goes on.
I also like most kinds of movies, but especially comedies, I'm always up for a good laugh! Some of my favorite movies are the Monty Python movies, Princess Bride, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Boondock Saints, Happy Accidents, Whatever Works, and One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest.
I love to read! I read a lot of non-fiction, but also love a good thriller or science fiction novel. Some of my favorite books thus far are Brave New World by Aldus Huxley, Next by Michael Crichton, Dracula by Bram Stoker, and A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had the opportunity in 2011 to travel to Central America and participate in an Archaeological Field School in Honduras. I learned a lot about Honduran culture now and in the past, and exactly how an Archaeologist goes about digging, finding, and analyzing pieces of our past! This experience really made me realize how much I want to travel and become an anthropologist and contribute all I can to our pool of knowledge about human past!

Teach, Learn, Share

I know some basic conversational Spanish, but am working towards becoming fluent. This is another reason I love to travel. I feel I can learn more from being submersed in the culture than sitting in a classroom. I am a life student, always thirsting for more knowledge and more experience.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have lived in the Kansas City metropolitan area for most of my life. I know a lot about the city and all the awesome things there are to do here (on the Kansas and the Missouri side!). I can offer suggestions, directions, or companionship! I'm more than happy to hang out in my free time or just direct someone who wants a little KC advice!
