About Me

Hi there! I'm Emily.

I sold all my belongings, quit my job, bought a one way plane ticket, and as of August 2016 I am traveling full time with Zak. He's alright. Check out his profile if you like: https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/nnamrellik

While we travel, we are using a program called Workaway, where we stay with hosts for lengths of time and help them out at home in exchange for room and board. So even though we aren't verified, and don't have any references on Couchsurfing yet, you can check out our Workaway profile to see what our hosts have to say about us on there! (and also to confirm that we are indeed real people!) :)

What else? I'm a freelance writer, feminist, equestrian, lover of sarcasm...

I like to fill my life with bad jokes, good beers, and even better people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Workaway is great, but it means I generally spend most of my time in smaller towns. On weekends and in between locations, it's sometimes nice to sightsee and explore some different areas.

The great thing about sites like Couchsurfing and Workaway is that we get to meet some really cool people whilst doing it. I'd love to get to know you when we come to stay, whether that means having a meal or a beer or playing a board game.

I'm not really into the big name touristy stuff, so if you've got free time and you are up for it, I'd love if you could show me your personal favourite parts of your city.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some books/authors I love (Or a few of them, anyway): Neil Gaiman, JRR Tolkien, Margaret Atwood, Douglas Adams, The Princess Bride, Harry Potter, Odd Thomas, The Dresden Files, The Dark Tower, A Song of Ice and Fire, Pride and Prejudice, Devil in the White City, The Raven Boys, Station Eleven, The Dud Avocado, In Cold Blood, City of Dark Magic, The Bell Jar, Scorpio Races, Secret Life of Bees, The Night Circus

I read a lot of contemporary fiction and fantasy. I went to school for English Lit and have a healthy appreciation for the classics, but find that they are hard to get into whilst I'm traveling.

I'm a (recovering) Netflix addict... my list of movies/tv that I love is pretty lengthy.

Have you ever noticed how hard it is to come up with a list of things you like off the top of your head?

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Really? Just one?

We spent the month of August 2016 working on a cider farm in Wales, learning a ton about apples and cider making (and cider drinking, of course). We lived off grid with solar and wind energy, compost toilets, and an outdoor shower. It was pretty damn cool. We're more than happy to share our knowledge.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm currently working on getting TEFL certified (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), so I am more than happy to practise your English with you if you're ESL, help with DIY projects, and why yes, of COURSE I will help you perfect your American accent with time-honored phrases like, "Hey Mom, can I have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?" and "Donald Trump is like, a total douchebag."

What I Can Share with Hosts

Perspective, conversation, a meal, a beer, some really cringeworthy jokes, and lots of laughs.

Most recently, I lived in Denver Colorado, USA, which is the craft beer capital of the States (or one of them, anyway. Americans love beer.). I'd love to take you out for a beer if you can show me one of your favourite spots. Or if you'd like to stay in, I can make you some really delicious burritos.

ALSO - Since I'm primarily slow traveling with Workaway, it means I've acquired a LOT of cool DIY skills. Need a room painted while we're crashing with you? Want someone to take a look at that leaky showerhead? Or are you just looking for someone to walk your dog while you're at work? Look no further. I am more than happy to help you around the house while I stay, and I'd love to get to know you while doing it. :)
