Hello! My name is Emily and I currently hail from the Pacific Northwest. I was born and raised in the Los Angeles area of California but have moved around a bit since then. I love books, specifically fiction but history is a great interest for me as well. My family often drove across the country to see family so travel isn't foreign to me and, as a teenager, I had the chance to see other countries besides my own while doing humanitarian work, which was a fantastic experience. I highly recommend it for everyone, especially teens.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The idea of a global community; getting to know others despite linguistic and cultural differences is a brilliant way to get to know our fellow man and break down the barriers that so easily divide us. Not only that, but travel has become so expensive that many people never step foot outside of their own country, but when they do, they are isolated travelers. When the idea of couch surfing was presented to me as an alternative for someone who has been scrimping and saving to travel, and who, quite honestly prefers the road less traveled, I thought it to be clever; helping travelers to save money and helping people from around the world make new friends and learn about the homes and lives and cultures of others. That knowledge and those experiences are something you can't put a price on.

Interests

I like a good story told in nearly any medium; be it art, music, poetry, or writing. I am fascinated by ancient civilizations; their structures, their stories, and the people who were part of them. I find nature wonderful, and peaceful, and it never ceases to amaze me.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a deep appreciation for many different kinds of music, however I tend to gravitate to a varying spectrum of punk and folk. I also enjoy cinema soundtracks immensely. I love to read, so asking me to pick a favorite (or even a few favorite) books is like asking me to pick my favorite star out of the heavens on a clear desert night. I enjoy the classics; Tolkien, Lewis, Austen, Poe, Stevenson, Christie, Stoker, and Doyle, however, I am always on the hunt for something new to read, usually in the mystery or adventure genre. My cinema tastes fall roughly along the same lines and I do enjoy television programs such as Doctor Who and Sherlock.
