About Me
Hi!
My name's Emily. I'm new to couchsurfing but I've heard great things about it!
I'm from the Sunshine State, Florida, USA. Basically I'm just trying to fit as many cool experiences as I can into breaks from school and work. I love traveling, learning about different cultures, and meeting new people. I've had such an awesome ride of adventures already, but I still have a never ending list of places I want to visit. Along the way, I'm hoping to connect with local people and learn about their cities through their eyes.
I'm currently finishing up my 2 year stay as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines. I've been living in a rural community here working with the local government to help promote more sustainable fishing practices. The Philippines is basically my 2nd home now.
Eventually I'll need to head back to Florida to finish up my Master's in Environmental Engineering, but that's not until January 2020. Until then, I'm gonna take advantage of my time on this side of the world and explore as much as a can!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I have a few months available between finishing up my volunteering in the Philippines and resuming my studies and want to make the most of this opportunity to travel the world. However, I'm on the volunteer/ college kid budget and am looking to save expensive where I can. I also love the idea of staying with locals in their home turf, what better way to learn about a place! I'm looking just looking for friendly people and good conversations (:

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Just recently when I was traveling through the Philippines I visited a town called Moalboal. They're known for their sardine run just a few meters off shore, which is this huge wall of thousands of sardines that will just vortex around you while you're swimming. Awesome experience. While I was there I also went canyoneering, jumping off of waterfalls up to 15 meters high! Highly recommended experience. Probably the coolest adrenaline adventure I've been on.
Teach, Learn, Share
I love cooking and I'd be happy to cook for/with you. I've also picked up fun little cultural snippets from all of the places I've visited. I'd love to share stories and learn more about your culture too.
