About Me

My life could be summarised in one world: Spontaneous. As a freelancer in photography, writing, translating and travel blogging, I've had the privilege of seeing and documenting the world from various perspectives. Most of my creative collection of works can be found on my website (www.freedomwanderers.com) where I share photos, destination articles and the occasional piece of writing.

I am a nomad at heart, restless if I stay in one place too long and always eager to find new places to explore. I'm curious, I like to defy odds, question societal views and challenge myself both physically and mentally. I love deep meaningful conversations about life and hearing other people's travel stories and life philosophies. The more I travel, the more I grow and learn, my thoughts and perspectives are constantly changing, moulding my future self.

I have a huge respect for this beautiful planet of ours and am working on living more waste free and always trying to find more sustainable or eco-friendly alternatives.

I've been travelling since 2016, never spending more than 6 months in one country - always on the move. In the last three years, I've encountered some of the most amazing people, lived in some truly magnificent places and had the chance to call Kayak Guiding the Norwegian Fjords my job!

Currently, I am back in my home town of Dunedin and enjoying the beautiful long sandy beaches. If you are keen for a surf, a coffee or to explore the stunning landscapes around Dunedin - send me a message and if I happen to be free in between my busy schedule, I would love to meet up :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first joined Couchsurfing while I was living in Vienna, I'd never done anything quite like it before, but after a semester of being both the guest and the host in many different countries, I met the kindest and most open minded people! This platform inspires me in so many ways and I'm so grateful for everyone I've met on here :)

Interests

I suppose photography is my main hobby, I don't know when it became such an important part of my life, but the more I travel, the stronger that bond becomes. My love for the landscapes of this world has brought me to many exotic and exciting locations and it has enabled me to capture and preserve so many beautiful moments.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:

Shantaram - it might be the best book you read all year! It flashes back to old Bombay and the way he describes this new world he stumbled into, will fascinate you and make you want to visit India!

Homo Deus - A Brief History of Tomorrow (by Yuval Noah Harari who also wrote the book Homo Sapiens) - this book will blow your mind at the path modern technology and medicine is taking us!

Homo sapiens - the prequel to the above, also mind blowing the way it explains how we came to have our modern day culture and diversity, how capitalism came about and changed our world.

Movies :

Terra - Documentary about the relationship between humans and our planet

Plastic Ocean - the amount of plastic we use is horrifying and it's going right back to the bottom of the food chain, which ultimately comes back to us. This documentary will make you more conscious of the single use plastics in your everyday life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spotted a pod of 30-40 dolphins at 6am one morning, as I was camping on a beach near Abel Tasman, NZ. They were feeding at high tide, so I grabbed my board and paddled out over 1km to greet them in the vast open ocean. I watched them play, jump, show off with back flips and tricks... it was one of the most surreal moments of my life. A few of the elders came to check me out, gliding past me so close, I could see the intense curiosity in their eyes. As the sun rose and the tide receded, they swam off into the horizon. It was the most humbling experience of my life and one I will never forget.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some photography skills and whatever else you might find interesting that I do - I'm an open book!

I would love to learn more about the cultures I have not yet had the privilege to familiarise myself with.

I love to share travel stories and have good yarns over copious amounts of coffee ;)
