About Me

I'm an adjunct professor of Philosophy at Tarrant County College, where I study the philosophy of time, and I live in a small house in Arlington with my amazing husband Kevin and our toddler, Riley. Being a teacher, a freelance writer, and a new mom means I hardly have time for anything else these days, but I'm also a longtime poet, a pretty damn decent (lacto-vegetarian) cook, a knitter, an astrologer, a gamer (mostly survival, 4x, and RPGs), a genealogist, a (pretty bad) musician, and a mythology/comparative religion buff. When I can, I love to travel.

I'm a somewhat intense, serious, anxious sort of person, but that doesn't mean I'm not also fun -- you just (usually) have to also be a passionate, anxious sort of person to appreciate it!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

CouchSurfing has treated Kevin and I like gods. Every host we have had was amazing, as were our guests. Granted, we sort of destroyed a teapot in a smoky disaster in Portland and I may have whacked a bunny with a golf ball on a golf course in Victoria. But our hosts were super nice about it, and we promise not to do it again!

Interests

Philosophy, linguistics, languages, literature, poetry, all things word-related. Vegan/vegetarian cooking. Music and most other art forms. Shamanism, medical science, astrophysics, astrology, aliens, dinosaurs, animal sexuality. Spirituality and comparative religion. Genealogy, history, the history of names. Oh, hell, let's face it, I'm interested in everything. Seriously. Try me. (Or just take a look at our bookshelves.)

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Русалка, Kinsey, the Silence of the Lambs trilogy, The Fountain, etc.

Music: Sufjan Stevens, Radiohead, the Deftones, Leonard Cohen, Bach, Fiona Apple, Local H, etc.

Books: As far as literature goes, if it's by Robert Anton Wilson, Chaim Potok, Iain Banks, or William Faulkner, I love it. I read so much that it's hard to list single books. I also adore pretty much every holy book ever, though I have a special love for the Upanishads and the Ramayana. I'm a huge Joseph Campbell nut.

Also, Allen Ginsberg is my hero.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ask me about my miraculous birth.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you loads of useless trivia about things you never thought you wanted to know. In return, I'd love to add your useless trivia to my collection.

If you're having some kind of spiritual crisis, Kevin and I are good at helping with that.

Kevin is an incredible musician and he is probably willing to share some music with you.

I can read your natal chart (that's an astrology thing).

I am happy to make you a meal!

What I Can Share with Hosts

All sorts of things, really, depending on your interests. I'm probably not the best guest if you're a really active sort who just wants to smash beer cans on your forehead and go skydiving, but hey, catch me on the right day...
