About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To show lots of people how cool Bristol and Bath are!

ABOUT ME

We are open, honest, fun-loving and friendly people. We enjoy meeting new people and love our city and enjoy making the most of everything it has to offer (which is a LOT). George is a busy man but if I'm free, I'm more than happy to show people around and hang out doing cheap cheap Bristolian fun-filled activities.

PHILOSOPHY

Compassion and diversity make the world go round.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We did a bit of couch surfing in China and really enjoyed the experience. We're now eager to return the favour to other travellers now that we're home again.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed in China. Only just got back from travels so not yet hosted but looking forward to it.

Interests

Travelling, cycling, walking, reading, knitting, music, festivals, how watermelons grow, coutnries I've not been to yet, really lots of things.... For George it's all about music; he loves going to see live music or making his own. He also loves yummy food, walking, being outdoors, doing new stuff, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

I LOVE films; most genres will suit.
I love music, which is a good things since I live i a house of musicians; George plays the didgeridoo, jew's harp and will have a go at most instruments he can get his hands on. Particularly if they look quite strange. Dave is one of the world's most wonderful guitarists (well I like his stuff anyway) He writes spontaneous musical jingles to compliment our otherwise boring daily house activities. Christian will play some great bass and sing a little if you can tear him away fro the computer long enough and feed him a sufficient amount of alcohol.
You'll mostly find live music in our kitchen, but if not, a range of stuff will be singing out from the speakers.
Books: All kinds. I like knitting more though. I'm actually embarrassingly addicted to it. How can you not be amazed that you can actually make a teddy bear out of a really long piece of woolly thread????

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Diving, trekking around the Anapurna Circuit in Nepal, watching a gecko eat a HUGE moth, and seeing loads of birds of prey soaring alongside our van while driving through the Gobi dessert in Mongolia; the herd of horses galloping alongside the van were quite a view too. Oh I should definitely add camping in the wilderness of Mongolia too. Crazy cool.

Teach, Learn, Share

So we all know not to eat yellow snow don't we? Good. Glad that's clear already... We've just been to an elephant festival in Laos and can regurgitate a few interesting facts from that for you. Interested? OK...

- Elephants eat about 250kg of food a day
- They drink about 100 litres of water every day
- They can hold up to 10 litres in their trunk at any one time
- Elephants can run up to 40km/hour but can't canter
- Elephants can't jump because they can't muster up the force to get themselves off the ground but if they could they'd break their knees landing
- Elephants hold less of their weight on each foot than a deer (given their body weight proportions)
- Elephants are pregnant for 22 months and rear their young at similar time scales to humans. They also live to similar (or slightly younger) ages.

OK that's my elephant facts for now, I think.

You could also ponder over these animal facts:
- Sharks have 7 senses
- Some fish change sex when the 'leader fish' who is always female dies.
- The blue whale is the largest creature that has ever lived on earth. It tips the scales at a whopping 170 tons - that's the same as about 22 elephants. Its heart is the size of a small car, and its largest blood vessels are wide enough for an adult to swim through without much difficulty.

Phew I think that's enough for now.
