About Me

CURRENT MISSION

get more skill points on our character sheets

ABOUT ME

we are a semi-nomadic husband-wife team who are making a life of learning new skills, eating new food, seeing new places, and building a home where ever we go. we value wilderness, scavenging, and growing things, but we have a whole lot to learn. we have a borderline-creepy obsession with dogs.

Emily was born in San Francisco, grew up in small town Florida and rural Ontario, and has spent most of her adult life in Toronto; Chris was raised in a Toronto suburb before moving to the city for work. we lived in Toronto and on various work sites around Ontario before settling in Peterborough in 2015.

PHILOSOPHY

work hard
be kind
fear nothing
keep walking

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

we are surfers when we travel, and host surfers whenever we have a couch!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

for our honeymoon in the autumn of 2012 we spent seven weeks on a roadtrip through America, visiting 21 states. without fail, the best experiences came from meeting and staying with cool locals.

Interests

Chris is into indie comics, genre film and literature, krav maga, circus arts, and heavy metal. he's interested in learning all kinds of new skills, and is currently working on a graphic novel series about dogs.

Em loves natural landscapes and all their various flora and fauna, vegan food, arts and culture, ancient history, discovering new music, dark beer and blush wine.

we both enjoy being outside in all kinds of weather and terrain, traveling to and exploring new places, cooking and eating and drinking, hanging out with animals, dancing to live music, and having awesome conversations with cool people around a cozy kitchen table. in general, we have a good time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Chris: chased black bears away from my tree planting camp in the middle of the night; wasn't sure what I'd do if I caught one, though.

Em: spent a night drinking wine in a hot spring in the Sierra Nevada while watching the Perseids, then climbed Matterhorn the next day.

Teach, Learn, Share

after a few seasons WWOOFing/volunteering, a six month organic farming internship, and a season running our own organic farm business, we consider ourselves farmers. mostly that means we know how to work hard for long hours so if you need something double-dug, we can totally make it happen for you. we spent a summer working at a wilderness fishing and hunting resort, so we can paint your house, mow your lawn, and maybe even teach you to fish for walleye!

Em can tell you lots of stuff about English literature from a couple hundred years ago, but assumes you probably don't want to hear it. she lived in Toronto for a decade and would love to show you where all the cool kids hang out - and where to avoid them. she's also a self-taught DJ and would love to hear your favorite tracks and share a few of her own!

Chris knows a bunch about making movies, particularly sound design and screenwriting. he's a level two krav maga student and would be up for exchanging a few educational blows. he also makes a pretty decent Jack Daniel's BBQ sauce, and will share the recipe in exchange for one of your own.

in general, we'll learn anything you wanna throw our way. skills are sexy.
