Fun loving and chatty, Emily and Josh have been together for close to 15 years and have collectively travelled 30+ countries. They love meeting new people and experiencing a place from a local's perspective.

STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW
We're in a new phase of our lives, we have a under 1year old in our house who still wakes up once a night and gets up at 7am in the morning. He is loud but happy (but did i mention loud?)! It means it's a super quiet house at 7pm and we go to bed fairly early. Generally if we do activities with CS guests it has to be organised around his nap times (meaning airport pickups are rarely possible), but there are plenty of buses nearby and street parking. We also work from home, so we're really only able to host you if you arrive on our days off (normally Sat-Mon). Hence why we say we Maybe Accepting Guests, but flick us a request and see if it's possible, but you do need to like kids.

Our office would be where you would sleep (it's a small room) but we have camp mattresses or a queen sized blowup. We also have an unfinished basement if that is preferable to sleeping next to the baby's room. We are looking for guests who are interested in connecting and making friends rather than a 'free ride'. To prove you've read this and are aware of the SYSK about us, please include the word 'Bonsai' in the first line of your message.

Please note if you're sick, or are within 2 weeks of arriving in the country we can't host you, our baby's immune system is just not strong enough.

EMILY
I'm a writer (so loooovvvveee reading) and first started writing when I was 12. I finished writing my first book while completing a degree in 'Space Science and Astrophysics and Geophysics'. So technically, I can claim to have been an astrophysicist (stars), geophysicist (rocks) and writer (crazy). I'm the creator of an app called Story City, which allows you to tell stories in the location that they are set, my speciality being real-life choose your adventures through city streets. I love books, singing and dancing and hope to collect many stories on our travels.

I'm from Australia and yes, back when I was a teenager my high school had its own herd of Kangaroos. I've been to almost every continent (Africa being my weakness in continent-domination) and have the pretty photographs to prove it.

JOSH
Hi! I'm a nerdy but cool engineer, originally from New Zealand. I'm pretty active (my friends call me the energiser bunny!) I'm a keen Tough Mudder fan (4 time finisher, woohoo!), have run a couple of marathons, love hiking and extreme adventures. My favourite thing about travelling though, is trying crazy new foods, some of which have included scorpians on a stick (Beijing!), fertilised duck egg (Cambodia and NOT my favourite!) and fried crickets (Vietnam). My main aim on this big adventure of ours is to make as many friends a possible and try to learn every language I can.

AT HOME
Couchsurfing was the highlight of our trip while we travelled in 2017, we met and made friends with so many wonderful people, so we want to give back by hosting couchsurfers of our own.

WHILE TRAVELLING
When travelling we want to see as much of it as possible from a local perspective! Whether you're willing to host us or just catch up for a drink we'd love to meet you, get to you know, your city and the things you love! We're a social couple and love chatting to and meeting people from a range of cultures.

We're respectful house mates, can keep to ourselves or join in the fun, and are looking forward to making friends with people across the world. We're not really interested in 'a free ride', we want to meet people who are willing to have a chat with us and build a friendship.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Got married in the same place Emily's parents did over 30 years ago.... Feel free to ask us where when you meet us! We can't give away all the mystery!

In 2012 we took 50 second-hand digital cameras to the Cambodian Children's Trust in Battambang, to teach the children in foster care photography for 2 weeks. The trust do a great job of educating and clothing the kids, but we wanted to let the kids tap into their creative juices too. The photographs taken during the trip by the children, and us were then exhibited in the gallery raising over $10,000 for the charity. It was one of the best things we've ever done, and we met so many lovely local people!

Lehren, lernen, teilen

We'd love to share stories, provide a singing or running partner (uh, both at the same time?), or offer a helping hand. We'd learn to cook local food and speak some of the language.
