Overview
About Me
I'm always down for a new adventure and new stories. I have a penchant for getting lost and finding my way back with a new story to tell. I'm originally from Ohio, but moved down to Florida to follow my job. I have a love for both nature and technology, and I'm equally at home 20 miles into the mountains backpacking as I am marveling at a rocket launch.
I currently live on the Space Coast with my cat, sugar glider, and two fishtanks.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I want to see more of places than just the main sites and the overcrowded tourists spots. My best adventures have been ones where I've stumbled across some neat 'off the beaten path' location. I want to make new friends, discover new places, try new foods. I figure couch surfing is a more direct way of finding these places instead of letting fate decide.
Interests
It's hard to put anything here, as anything can become a new interest of mine if I think about it too long. I have a bad habit of collecting hobbies, it seems my life goal is to be a Jack of Trades, Master of None.
But for a list of some of the recent things I've been doing:
- Lots of reading (historical, science fiction, human psychology, fantasy)
- Hiking/Backpacking
- Woodworking (currently trying to build a desk)
- Learning to play the piano
- Artwork (papercraft, prop building)
- Aquariums and exotic shrimp
- Stargazing
- Robotics
- arts
- cooking
- board games
- reading
- traveling
- woodworking
- rocketry
- backpacking
- snowboarding
- rock climbing
- psychology
Music, Movies, and Books
Books: Science Fiction is what I'm usually drawn to (Asmiov, Jemisin, Weir) but my favorite series by far is anything by Terry Pratchett.
Movies: Another area where pretty much anything goes, except for horror. Some of my favorites are Bladerunner, Labyrinth, Killjoys, Ladyhawke, Sneakers.
Music: Pretty large variety, anything classic rock, folk, lo fi, chip-tune, some pop, some edm
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One of my favorite experiences was backpacking in Yosemite National Park, on a trail that was on the rim of the valley, right after a forest fire. I had gotten up in the middle of the night as it was completely freezing and stepped outside for a moment. The absolute quite of the forest and the clearest night sky I had ever seen was completely magical. Perfectly serene, and took my breath away (though that could have been the almost freezing temperatures). I stayed out stargazing until the dropping temperatures chased me back to bed.
