About Me

Hi I'm Em. I'm a geologist in training taking a gap year before starting a PhD program at Arizona State. I love hiking, kayaking, yoga, dancing, drinking, crafting, baking, and finding joy in simple things. I'm easygoing and clean and quiet.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Some of my favorite travel memories came from people sharing what they loved about their home with me and having the opportunity to turn strangers into friends. That's why I'm on couchsurfing--for more chances to connect and share during my travels.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I love pretty much any type of rock music and lots of other genres. I enjoy going to music festivals. I've played the piano since I was 5. Debussy, Chopin, and Bach are my favorite composers.
Movies: A few of my favorites are Fight Club, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, A Fish Called Wanda, Pan's Labyrinth, Boondock Saints, Amelie, O Brother Where Art Tho, and the Marvel movies.
Books: The Handmaid's Tale, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Ishmael, Le Petit Prince, Cat's Cradle, Lord of the Flies, Memoirs of a Geisha, and The Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

While studying in Chile last summer, I met their President, Michelle Bachelet, on a tour.
A few summers ago, I worked as a field assistant in the Appalachians for a bedrock mapping project.
Last summer I did a coast to coast roadtrip and visited a lot of cool national parks and met a lot of awesome people.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm studying geology, so I can try to explain as much of the geology of the hosts' home as possible if they are interested.
I taught ballroom dance throughout high school, so if my hosts were interested, I would love to share that.
I am pretty good at cooking, so I'd be down to share a meal.
