About Me

Hi, I am Emma and I am travelling at the moment with my boyfriend Tom. We have been together for nearly 6 years now. We are a very easy-going, laid back couple who try to live in the present as much as possible.
We started in Cancun, have travelled through Mexico, popped across to the Galápagos Islands for the most incredible 9 days of our lives and then continued down South America. We have visited New Zealand and Fiji as well and are about to start heading down the East Coast of Australia for a month. After that we head to Bali and then up through S.E. Asia and then some of South East Asia!
We are both secondary school teachers (I teach Drama and Tom teaches Science). I have given up my job and Tom has a year off so that we can pursue our dream of travelling before becoming proper grown-ups! This is the longest trip either of us has ever done- I have previously done 6 weeks teaching in Uganda and Tom has spent 3 weeks in Scotland.
We have both fallen in love with travelling, exploring new areas, trying new foods and most of all meeting great people from all over the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We heard about Couch Surfing through a friend we made whilst in Oaxaca, Mexico, and listening to his experiences made us want to get involved with this way of travelling for our trip.
To get to know the places we are going to through the eyes of someone who lives there. Possibly even finding some hidden gems we wouldn't have found ourselves.
To meet like minded people and make new, and hopefully, life long friends.
We would also like find out how everyday life differs around the world from ours at home.

When we get ourselves settled back in England after our trip we really want to be able to share our home with Couch Surfers wanting to come to Yorkshire in England.

Interests

We both have obviously developed a huge passion for travelling. It is something I have always known is there and am so glad that I am finally getting to do it- it has been 10 years since I first decided I wanted to go.
We have lots of other shared interests- cooking, Scuba diving, gym, animals, herpetology- we have 5 geckos and 2 snakes back in England, hiking, art, climbing (I'm not very good!) theatre, exploring new places and "looking at stuff" Tom says!
Tom also plays Ultimate Frisbee, goes mountain biking, plays video games and goes fishing.
I love spending time with friends and family, reading recipe books, horse riding and drinking tea!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: We both love music from all genres and time periods, ranging from a bit of Spice Girls (ok that's just me!) to Ray Charles, Bon Jovi and the Chilli Peppers. Despite this list we do like modern stuff too but it's just not quite as good!
Movies: Django, Snatch, Lock Stock, all Disney films (that is both of us!) Deadpool, Bridget Jones. Again lots of variation although I don't like horror films- Tom does, I love a rom-com and he is not too keen!
Books: Harry Potter, street art books, Shakespeare, travel related fiction and non-fiction, nature/animal related non-fiction. Tom also likes reading science journals- mainly biology related.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Emma- an 11 day trek of the Annapurna Sanctuary in Nepal (in monsoon season!)
Tom- spending 4 days walking around the Lake District
Together- snorkelling in the Galapagos with sea lions, turtles, penguins and flightless cormorants all in one place

Teach, Learn, Share

Tom loves a random fact and can quite often explain the science behind something. If he can't he is usually then desperate to find out what it is!
We are both trying to learn Spanish whilst we are away. Unfortunately, and rather lazily, we didn't get around to doing this before we left.
We would love to learn lots about the countries that we are passing through from people who live there.
I would also love to pick up some new recipes and cooking tips and would be more than willing to cook with/for our host.
