About Me
Hi, I’m Emma, I’m from a small town in Iowa, and I’m taking my first solo trip to Europe this summer. I’m excited to give Couchsurfing a try and meet new people from whichever city I’m in! As I haven’t used Couchsurfing before, I don’t have many, if any, references yet but I can promise that I’ll be a respectful hostée who can be very understanding to any differences/wishes that my host has.
More about me: I’ve just graduated high school and finished a 2-year associate’s degree at a local university. I’m planning on eventually going to college in Europe to study architecture. I love learning and my favorite subjects are chemistry, psychology, music, and foreign languages. I also love reading and literature - historical fiction, fantasy, sci fi, classics… (except Colleen Hoover - iykyk).
As a person, I’m pretty shy and very quiet, but I love “talkers" and just listening to others and their stories. As an introvert, I will definitely need some alone time, either to just relax or explore the city myself, which will give me more energy to create better connections later on with my host and whoever I meet. As a traveler, despite the lack of experience, I already know that I’d much rather spend the day slowly exploring a city, its sights, and the culture around me rather than rushing to and from attractions, always stuck in a crowd. I’d love to take any recommendations from my host on things that locals do/see and what they themselves enjoy doing as well!
Going back to my interest in music, I know how to play piano, percussion, and violin. I might be able to share some music with my host if requested, although I don’t have anything memorized - so you’ll have to have some music on hand!
For foreign languages, I speak French and a little bit of German. I’ve learned French for 5 years now and I’m ready to better my French with my host if possible. With French, I was able to do a six-month foreign exchange in France. During my exchange, I didn’t just learn French but also gained a much deeper appreciation for the culture. My exchange has given me a much bigger desire to travel as well!
The last thing about me is that I love to go jogging and I try to eat well too but I’ll try anything! I can cook pretty well, I love baking, and I can make really good chocolate chip cookies (since I try to eat well).
All in all, I hope that this was able to give you a better idea of what kind of couchsurfer I’ll be and whether or not we’d be a good match.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I’m on Couchsurfing because I feel like it will let me create deeper connections with locals and people who know the area/city better than I. As I’m not very outgoing, I don’t enjoy trying to meet many people at once, so having the opportunity to stay with just a few people and better get to know their life/culture feels like it would fit me more.

Music, Movies, and Books
I’ll listen to anything, my tastes are pretty basic.
I don’t watch many shows or movies, but one of my favorites that I’ve watched recently was A Beautiful Mind or Stranger Things.
I’ll read almost all books as mentioned above, some of my favorites are the Red Queen Series - though I haven’t read it in a while - and the Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. I’ll take any book recommendations - English or French!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Graduating college with an associate’s degree before graduating high school - all while fitting in a foreign exchange in the meantime.
