About Me

Emma is an Australian with a love of good design, electronic music (I'm a sometime DJ) the outdoors, farming and sustainable living. My favourite movie quote is from The Matrix: "Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth. It is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself." My husband Nick is a Greek American with a lifelong love of music and the ability to play pretty much any song you throw at him on his guitar. A stargazer, a dreamer and a happy hippie with an unhealthy passion for Japanese anime, he's an awesome vegetarian cook and all round people pleaser.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Nick and Emma met at an off grid permaculture mountain village in Northern California when she was travelling through town for a night and happened upon the cute little village via AirBNB. Love at first sight and Nick followed Emma as she travelled to a new job in Malaysia later that same year. True soul mates who share a love of nature, animals, travel, art, philosophy and quantum physics, they were married in Siena, Italy the following year and have been together ever since.

We crave a simple and sustainable life where we have only what we need and can give freely our skills and our happy nature, in return for sharing a meaningful life with like-minded people. We've both done the rat race thing and frankly, its hollow and soulless. Now we are travelling the world volunteering, couch surfing, doing whatever we can to stay on the road.

Thank you for taking the time to consider us. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Im a part time DJ so I love most electronic music but of course love everything from New Wave to Disco, hip hop and everything in between.

Nick is a musician and was in punk bands for most of his teenage years and early 20s. He is a true music aficionado and can talk in detail about ANY type of music really. His passion is rap, punk and metal - needless to say headphones are handy!

Too many books and movies to mention but here's a taster;

The Matrix
The Lobster
Old Boy
Space Odyssey 2001
Star Wars - all of them
anything by Studio Ghibli but Ponyo is my favourite!
The Kids are Alright
Mood Indigo
Moliere
Anime - Kids on the Slope, Death Note, Kill la Kill, Code Guias, Guerran Laggan
The Godfather movies
Sex and the City - don't judge :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

moved to Japan with nothing more than one phone number (in the 90s) and a backpack and ended up staying 2 years then travelling further after that.

Teach, Learn, Share

Nick and I can share our knowledge of permaculture, intentional living, travel hacking, music and movie making. We also love cooking and experiencing local culture and have no interest in the 'tourist experience'. We want to live like locals even if its just for a night.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Laughter, philosophy, passion, fun and our experiences from the road. We love to love and want to give freely wherever we go. If you want a hug, we can give you one!

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
