About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To survive the cold winter in Norway

ABOUT ME

Hi guys!
My name is Emma and I'm 21 years young. I come from Helmond in the Netherlands, but I've been studying in Nijmegen for 4 years now. Right now I am on exchange in the amazing capital of Norway: Oslo. Freezing now and then, but it's fun to be a student here. It's my first time to live abroad. I've seen quit a bit of Europe, and when I am done with studying I'm planning on doing some more travelling around the world.

PHILOSOPHY

No matter what you do in life, you should always be able to justify the choices you make. To your neighbours, your family, your friends, but most of all to yourself. Life is what you make of it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

First of all I'd like to find out more about couchsurfing by maybe just chatting on the community, or by having a drink with other travellers. At the moment it is quit hard for me to host any travellers, since I am in a small student room without a couch. But definitely let me know if you are going to Oslo and want to have a coffee and a chat to talk about the attractions of Oslo.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None! I'm a CouchSurf virgin still!

Interests

I love to just hang around with friends, go to the movies and have a drink (although this can sometimes get pretty costy in Oslo!)
Reading is something I enjoy very much, mostly modern authors like Auster and Murakami, but also a classic now and then. A real passion of mine is cooking, especially stuff from Jamie Oliver books!! Furthermore I play piano, my teacher teaches me al this 50's songs which none of my friend know, but it is fun I enjoy playing them. And right now I am learning to salsa dance at a beginners level.

Music, Movies, and Books

Since I do cultural studies, this could be a long list. I'll just write down some that come to my mind:
Movies: Inglorious bastards, The big Lebowski, Star wars, In Bruges, Pulp fiction. Danish movies like Adam's apples, Flickering lights, Festen, The idiots,
Music: Tool, Porcupine Tree, Massive attack, Fatboy slim, Leonard Cohen, The Doors.
Books: New York trilogies, Kafka on the shore, Freedom, Crime and punishment, Nooit meer slapen (English translation would be Never sleep again, don't know the original translation of this book),

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Glacier hiking in Finse was really memorable. If you have the change to visit Norway, this is definitely something you need to do. It gives a real kick to walk on the ice and see the absolute origin of the rivers.

Teach, Learn, Share

Dunno.. give advise on which movies to watch or books to read? Or maybe give some good recipes for Italian and Indian food.. :)
