Overview
About Me
Hello! My name is Emma and I'm a cancer researcher based in London. During the day I'm a computational biologist researching risk factors for breast and ovarian cancer. At night I hang out at cabaret and queer events. My side hustles include life modelling, pet-sitting and tutoring.
Best friend review: Intelligent. Principled. Adventurous. Cultured. Gin-soaked.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've been invited to interview at a research lab in Toronto. I've not been to Canada since I was 13, so I'd like to take the opportunity to do some travelling. However, I only finished my PhD last year and I'm still paying off the debts I accumulated as a student. Couchsurfing seems like a good way to travel on the budget and meet new people.

Music, Movies, and Books
My favourite movie is Clueless. It's an excellent Jane Austen adaptation and the soundtrack features No Doubt, The Lightning Seeds, and two Bowie tracks. What more could you possibly want?
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In 2014 I sang backing vocals for the band Goldfrapp at the Royal Albert Hall. I'll remember that experience all my life.
Teach, Learn, Share
Here are some questions relevant to my research. If you host me we can discuss fun things like this! If you don't want to talk science that's also cool.
- There are three animals susceptible to prostate cancer. Can you guess which they are?
- How do tortoiseshell (calico) cats get their coat colour?
- What is the origin of the term "debugging"?
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share: my time, empathy, stories of London life, my recipe for perfect Yorkshire Puddings, lectures on biology and programming, an evidence-based budget skincare regime tailored to your skin and goals (this was my outlet when I was writing my PhD).
