CURRENT MISSION

My sister, Rosalie, and I are going to be visiting Italy for the first time this spring! We will be based in Padua where our family are living, but we'd love to take a few trips to see the rest of the country. We are 1/4 Italian but have never visited before, and we are both trying to learn Italian.

ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is emmaline. I am a college student in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. I am studying food justice and prison abolition, and I spend most of my time working as an activist to make a better food system! I also love spending time outside, hanging out with dogs and other animals, reading, and cooking yummy vegan meals with friends. My sister, Rosalie, is two years older than me (24) and she is a middle school math teacher. She loves going to concerts, reading, cooking, and watching movies.

I believe very strongly in the golden rule- do to others what you would want to be done to you. I try to live my life with an open mind and a compassionate heart. I also strive to put intention into everything I do and to live in the moment.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have not been a part of the couchsurfing community in quite some time. However, in the past I have used it when Rosalie and I travelled to Europe together in 2014, and later when my mom and I took a cross-country walk. I have met many amazing people and I cannot wait to meet even more! I like to get to know my hosts over a meal (I can cook for you!) or an adventure together (like exploring your town.)

Interests

I love to cook, read, tap dance, and travel. I am generally a pretty introverted person who enjoys a night in getting to know someone through conversation over a crazy night of clubbing. However, sometimes I like to go out and party. One of the things I enjoy most is discussing things, whether it's analyzing a book or debating about a social issue. I think I'm pretty open minded and I love to hear other people's views on the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love Hayao Miyazaki films, Harry Potter, Clueless, Frances Ha, Bridesmaids, and 80s films such as Dazed and Confused and Pretty in Pink.

In terms of music, I enjoy folk, rock, r&b, and more. I love live music and have been to lots of awesome concerts including Arctic Monkeys and Wolf Parade. Some other artists I listen to are Fleet Foxes, of Montreal, The Antlers, Twin Sister, Beach House, and Elliot Smith.

I love lots of TV shows, including Breaking Bad, 30 Rock, Portlandia, Freaks and Geeks, Parks and Recreation, The Office, Doctor Who, That 70s Show, and more!

Some books I enjoy: The Tao of Pooh, The Lovely Bones, Bossy Pants, Lord of the Flies, The Jungle, Grapes of Wrath, The God of Small Things, The Goldfinch, all things Jane Austen, and Harry Potter!

I am always happy to learn about new movies, music, and books :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've worked at an animal sanctuary and seen animals who were thrown away (literally) or abused come back to life and thrive.

I've hiked through Glendalough and took shelter from the hail in the wall of an old church.

I've met wonderful, inspiring people from all over the world. :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to learn some of your language. I speak a bit of Spanish and I am fluent in English but that is all, so I'd love to learn more! I am also always happy to learn new hobbies such as how to cook different dishes.

I can share with you vegan cooking and tap dancing.
