About Me

I'm just your run-of-the-mill wanderer, trying to find my place in the world. I spent the last six years in Nashville, TN...but I got antsy. After wandering around the northeast for a bit, I landed a job in Vermont. So that's currently "home."

When I'm corralling a bunch of preschoolers, you may find me reading, baking, hiking...probably with a cup of coffee. The newest goal is to get more comfortable on snowshoes (never had to use those in Tennessee) and visit all of the amazing Vermont breweries.

I am currently learning to be in the moment...rather than racing ahead or lagging behind :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Traveling via "locals" always makes travels more enriching.

Interests

I spent several years getting really into rock climbing...but then my schedule got out of whack and I lost all of my climbing partners. Then I started hiking, camping, backpacking, etc. Those are things you can do alone :)

A lot of my hobbies happen "alone," but swapping stories over beer or coffee is always a good option. (And if I've been in a kitchen, I've been known to contribute cookies, bread, pie, etc.)

Music, Movies, and Books

As someone who has worked with kids extensively, my "favorite book" list includes some unexpected titles like "If You Take a Mouse to School" and "Ish" and "Flotsam." If you're looking for more traditionally grown-up titles, I'll give you: "The Great Gatsby", "Wuthering Heights", "The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, and "An Everlasting Meal."

As for movies, my all time favorite is Arsenic and Old Lace. If you haven't seen it, you are missing out. Find it and let Cary Grant tickle your funny bone. Also handy for tickling would be Bridesmaids. If you're not in the mood for tickling however, might I suggest Phantom of the Opera or V for Vendetta?

And I like music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hike Mt LeConte (in the Smokies)
Working as an outdoor educator in New Hampshire
Visit all 56 Tennessee state parks in 2018
Hang-gliding in Switzerland
Baking with kids
Kneading Conference in Maine

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn whatever it is that you have to offer! And yes--you, my friend, have much to offer. I would love to learn more about beer (I'm working my way into IPAs after years of sticking with stouts & porters), fair trade coffee, cooking zucchini, and baking cakes (mine are always under-done). If you have none of that to offer, I am also open to learning how to change the oil in my car, complete minor bike repairs, or pack lighter for backcountry camping. Or…anything else that you have rolling around in your delightful head! I'm open to it.

And as far as teaching…I dunno! I could help you hone in on your reading fluency, bake a batch of cookies, or write a cover letter. Then again, there are lots of things rolling around in my head that I don't even realize. Perhaps one of those would interest you. Maybe you want to learn about hiking in Tennessee, rolling out pie crust, or designing the perfect classroom management plan. Since I've lived in a few different states, I can also help you play with a few different accents that you might find in the U.S. I'm great at southern :)

And if none of that interest you…I'll share some cookies.
