Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Figure out the world and meaning(s) of life. In the meantime, have as much good food and as many great conversations as possible.
ABOUT ME
Perpetually asking too many big questions, asking Why, and stirring up (a good, constructive kind of) trouble. At school, I helped start a group called the Brown Conversation that's asking all kinds of questions about the purpose of education and looking for ways to make the university better (it would have been called the Brown Movement, but that doesn't sound so good). I also help run the Independent Concentration and Independent Study programs, to work with people that want to create either their own majors or their own classes. I'm doing my own Independent Concentration called Education & Political Economy, and studying the connections between those two, which is what brings me to Viet Nam.
This summer I got a grant from the university to come study Viet Nam's higher education system and ask similar questions to the one's I'm asking at home about the purpose of education (though the project was kind of an excuse just to come to Viet Nam, learn about the country, and try some delicious food).
PHILOSOPHY
Question everything.
Live simply, that others may simply live.

Music, Movies, and Books
Favorite movie: Ocean's Eleven.
Favorite music: Rodrigo y Gabriela, Mana, Calle 13, Orishas
Favorite books: Let the Great World Spin, Three Cups of Tea (influential when I read it, even though it turned out not to be true), The Passions and the Interests: Arguments for Capitalism Before its Triumph
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Going skydiving in Brazil (and only realizing half-way down that you can't breathe with your mouth open -- I didn't understand the professionals' instructions because they were in Portuguese).
Watching a traffic jam in Morocco comprised of motorbikes, bicycles, pedestrians, a car, a donkey, and a horse and carriage.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am a pretty good cook and can bake really good cookies.

Brazil, Ecuador, Morocco, Sri Lanka, Viet Nam
