About Me
CURRENT MISSION
One overseas trip every year, for the next decade. 6 more to go!
ABOUT ME
10 years ago I'd never heard of Couchsurfing, never traveled, and was working in a 'career'/horrible job. That year I made the best and scariest decision of my life: get on a plane and move to Australia to study.
Best. Decision. Ever.
I've lived in Australia for 9 years now - I love living in Melbourne, love the friends I've met, and traveling has made a good situation even better. These past few years have easily been the happiest of my life.
After having my first big overseas trip a few years ago, I've caught the travel bug and I've been traveling for a couple months each year for the past few years. I enjoy learning languages, playing ice hockey, practicing yoga, and focusing on being more mindful.
PHILOSOPHY
Obviously it's just my belief but there's only a few really True things you need to know:
Be here, now.
This, too, will pass.
Practicing Acceptance can change your life.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have significant CS karma I'd like to repay - I've been hosted more than I've hosted others and some CSers have added so much to my trips. I've organised events, brought others to CS events, and generally just love sharing my CS experiences with others.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Before I joined CouchSurfers, a friend in Vancouver put me up for a couple weeks. Meeting someone who knew the city well turned my first travelling experience from a good to amazing. I've been taken on tours of centuries-old opera houses, hosted during Oktoberfest, led on tours of Seoul, taken backstage in German Opera Houses - so many great experiences.
Interests
A couple years ago, I started learning how to play ice hockey and absolutely *love* how intense and fast it is. It reminds me of being a kid and playing street hockey. I also do some meditation and yoga classes to work on some mindfulness and relax; both have made a huge difference in my life.
Other than that, I enjoy hopping on a bike for a long trip, catching up with a few mates in the city for drinks, and *love* exploring. I've only lived in Melbourne for 7 years so I can still drive 15 minutes in one direction and be somewhere completely new.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The bright lights of *everywhere* in Seoul. Sandboarding on 100M dunes in New Zealand. Sleeping in a swag in Darwin and staring at stars all night. Seeing the milky way for the first time in Canada at a friend's cottage. New Years Eve in the sweltering heat on beaches and rooftops in Melbourne. Seeing the Northern Lights in the arctic circle in Sweden. Oktoberfest. The indescribable natural beauty of hiking around Ireland, Croatia, and Bosnia. The manicured and cultivated but "Keep off the Grass" beauty of Paris.
My favourite is Melbourne though: even 9 years later, every once in a while, I'll be in the CBD and look up and around. I never planned to move here, never knew the city existed, never knew what it was like to travel, to meet people from other countries.. and now I'm living on the other side of the planet. Still kinda blows my mind, nearly 10 years in.
