Overview
About Me
I'm from Perth (Scotland, not Australia) and I enjoy travelling when I've actually got the money to do so.
My name, if you're wondering, is pronounced like "Ewan" - the spelling's from Scottish Gaelic, and it should by all rights have an acute accent over the 'o', but I couldn't for the life of me get the site to accept it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Two main reasons: first, for a way of travelling that'll not only save me money, but give me the chance to meet new people wherever I'm going; and second, because I'm a great supporter of collectively-organised things like this, and I'll choose them over profit-making alternatives whenever I'm able.
Interests
Wide-ranging and always growing. Some of my most abiding interests are in politics (specifically, though by no means exclusively, Scottish politics) and science, but I've dipped my toe into virtually every area, from philosophy through literature all the way to video gaming.
Pretty much the only thing I can think of that I've not got at least a passing interest in is sport - sorry 'bout that.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books:
Loads, but top picks include Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, Tolkien, Eoin Colfer (particularly, but not only, the Artemis Fowl books), and the works of R. A. Salvatore. If you're noting a preference for fantasy, that's because that's true.
I also read a lot of non-fiction, with a recent read being 'Chaos or community?', by Martin Luther King, Jr.
Films:
MCU films
The Garden of Words, by Makoto Shinkai
Howl's Moving Castle, by Hayao Miyazaki
Ghost in the Shell, by Mamoru Oshii
Music:
Virtually impossible to say absolute favourites, as it depends on what mood I'm in. Lately, I've been listening to Lindsey Stirling (violin/electronic fusion), Pentatonix (a cappella pop), Enter Shikari (electronic metal/hardcore), Dir en grey (Japanese death metal) and the Metal Gear Solid soundtracks (video game/classical)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've gotten some of my writing published on the news site CommonSpace, on topics from the EU referendum to nuclear power. Probably not as spectacular as a lot of things other folk have done, but it had me well pleased.
