About Me

Eoghan - "oh•en"

What can you say in a little box of text?

Explore, look for places, people, ideas; learn, then make.

Travelling is important to me; I want to make it a central part of my life.
I'm curious about the world, interested in people, the ways they live their lives, and the things I learn from them (language, culture, personality, music, art...). Not very interested in a daily grind, trivial conflicts, or being a spectator.
Enjoy the extremely unlikely privilege of being - alive, aware. Be honest, calm, humble, generous; face and accept reality, seek an impartial perspective. Don't lie or hide.

Unfortunately, I've never really been able to say a lot with a little - so, lots of text ahead.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Host, traveller, companion for hanging out, talking, exploring, travelling, general adventures and new stuff.
Happy to share anything I can, hosting or surfing - cooking, company and friends, any advice or experience.

I've stayed with and hosted both people from CS and friends I met in various places along the way. Get to know and learn from new people, this is where I feel most comfortable and in my element at the moment.

Interests

I like plenty of things - music, art, books, films, comedy; parkour (new to it and not good yet), football (soccer), paintball, running, hiking, swimming (badly), skateboarding (a while ago), food (cooking, eating); new things, ideas (good and bad); honest/interesting/courageous/funny/open people; wandering, talking to strangers, learning.
Want to do: bungee jumping, skydiving (and BASE-jumping, wingsuit flying), piloting, scuba-diving, long-term hitch-hiking, graffiti, rock-climbing... many other things.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Coen brothers, Martin Scorsese, Park Chan Wook, many more...
Cormac McCarthy, Ernest Hemingway, Bill Bryson, many more...
Radiohead, Aesop Rock, Blockhead, Tallest Man on Earth, Scroobius Pip, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Tool, Deltron 3030, Alt-J, many more... Live music of many kinds are a great window into a place and people, from open mic nights to festivals, what I do and don't know (the above, jazz, classical, techno, so on) - so if you have something to share, I'll probably find a way into it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Living my early life in and around Zambia - the incredible scale and rawness of that part of the earth.
Going from an introverted, insulated, little world to a more open, independent, outgoing way of living (still in progress, learning, improving).

Teach, Learn, Share

Mainly conversation, sharing experiences - I'm interested in people, lives, and learning (as well as conversation for its own enjoyment).
Things I've studied or worked in - art (traditional/digital); coding (or "creative technology" in bullshit-ese), some other tech stuff; some maths and physics.
Some local and foreign knowledge.
Love food, enjoy cooking, and can share some pretty decent meals.
Can just about use an SLR (so your travel pictures don't need to be of you holding the camera backwards).
