CURRENT MISSION
To stop picking on my husband......
ABOUT ME
I grew up on a farm, and I dropped out of high school 4 months before graduation. I wanted to get out, so I took a course on hotel and restaurant service and headed to London. I spent the next 5 years traveling around the (mainly English-speaking) world, working as I went. Then I fell for an American in Berlin, and followed him back when he enrolled in grad school. I went to community college in the States, and am now taking a year off before finishing my Bachelor's degree. I'm a very positive person. This is what my dour (he wrote this not me!!! You're not dour honey!!) husband likes most about me, me thinks.
PHILOSOPHY
To be a little nicer, oh and to NOT reveal EVERYTHING over the first beer!! Gosh, darn I ALWAYS do that!
Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I love this idea. Having bummed around the world for 5 years, I'm eager to give others a similar opportunity. Though we're now in Berlin, where my husband's doing research, we are house sitting and unable to host until we have our own place. In sept. it's back to New Haven, CT, home of beautiful Yale U. Once we get back to the 'Haven our door will always stand open to the couchsurfers of the world.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Too many to count. In Graz, Austria, I spent a week in a crazy co-op. In Berlin I lived in my boss's trashy (sorry Chris) apartment for nearly a month before finding a place of my own. In India I slept on the roof of another boss's house. I slept on a boat from Lithuania to Helsinki once, while the sea-grunters (I am unsure what to call them) guarded my stuff for me.
Intereses
Old people, funny tea, unexplained medical phenomena, Russian people (oh I already said "people"), cheese, beer, wine, port, brandy....okay you get it! strange cold places like Iceland, Orkney, Shetland and Faroe Islands.....

Música, películas y libros
I never watch films...but I'd like to more. Hmmmm think the last film was called "Perfume"...it was odd, but I liked it a lot. Listening to Fiest and Camille at the moment and Chekhov's short stories ALL on my Ipod. I am a lazy reader, so I love being able to absorb a book via osmosis (thank you Apple)!!
Algo increíble que he hecho
I watched my husband survive a Brain Hemorrage.....he is all good now, so don't worry. I have been welcomed in to the most intimate of settings, by people with extraordinary cognitive impairments. My friends in India, were so receptive to my help when I tried to teach them composting on their farm. They, in turn, taught me so much!! Like how to milk their cheeky cow and harvest wheat. I was invited to assist in collecting blood in India for children with a nasty blood disorder. Worked together with my young friend Daniel in the States. He's in 3rd grade and we both wanted to see him make it to the 4th!!! Gosh.....many amazing things......let's share the rest over a pint hey?
Enseña, aprende, comparte
Oh golly......I am a beginner at everything. Well....I will be studying the History of Medicine as of September 2009, so maybe I have read a little more about this than other people...but then again , maybe not. Hmmmm, oh I know a lot about Australian working dogs, having grown up with them. I also know a thing or two about Russian dairy products.
I want to learn anything and everything.
