About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Visit every country in the world

ABOUT ME

I'm from a very well-travelled family, my grandparents (both Finnish) met in London in the 1930's and my parents (also both Finnish) in Buenos Aires in the 1960's. My dad has visited every country in the world, and I naturally want to follow in his footsteps (131 so far, which is why I'm not including them in the travels section of my profile, a bit too heavy of a workload...). I've visited every country in Europe and catching up on Africa, my big white spot for the moment..
I'm happily married with two kids.

PHILOSOPHY

Transhumanism is the best proxy for my personal philosophy (www.transhumanism.org)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been a relatively lazy CSer, I have only surfed a few couches and have not succeeded in hosting anyone. Having two young kids makes it a bit more difficult...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Since I'm a very open person (sometimes naively so), I've ended up visiting and staying with people I meet off the street. It's probably not always safe, but nothing's happened to me so far (once in Georgia cops came into the house I was in and told me to leave since it wasn't safe, but I never understood what the problem was). While the internet makes it easier to book hotels/hostels in advance, making random encounters less likely, it also makes planned encounters like CouchSurfing easier, which is great!

Interests

Travelling, obviously. I also like games of all kinds (board, card, computer, video, you name it), especially for their social aspect. Give me a deck of cards and I'll teach you a new game!

Music, Movies, and Books

For some reason, I mostly find myself reading non-fiction. To me, it just seems the real world is and has been such an adventure that there's no need to read about made-up adventures. I'm a bit of a history buff, which makes it easier to find interesting non-fiction books.
Movies, on the other hand: the more imaginative the better! "Based on a true story" is not a great tag line for me. Star Wars, silly comedies (Airplane, Top Secret!, Austin Powers) and so on.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

my first daughter's birth (missed the second one's...)

Teach, Learn, Share

-I can teach many card games.
-For those so inclined, I know a lot about world history (something about almost every country in the world, I think).
-I also know quite a few jokes, both politically correct and incorrect.
-I continuously want to learn more about ways of life in different countries.
