About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To cook un roti de boeuf avec des petits haricots verts frais et craquants, oignons grelots et échalottes confites dans une légère sauce au vin, le tout accompagné de petites pommes de terre ratte, et arrosé d'un rouge assez corsé...

ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in Paris, and completed my BA there. I completed an M.A in philosophy of art in the gorgeous city of York. I have both French & U.K citizenships (explains the Welsh surname). I now work for a think tank. I have a wife and a young son! How I would define myself: lively, passionate, naturally optimistic, curious, ironic, too proud to mention my bad points on this page...

PHILOSOPHY

Constantly trying to appreciate fully every moment and experience in life, as if it were the first and last one. (Actually much easier to say than to put into practice!) Also, I find important to be always ready to reconsider my beliefs and prejudices, and try to never take myself too seriously. Trying to make a difference.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I write poetry. Look, here is a sample: "O take my hand Walt Whitman! Such glinding wonders! such sights and sounds! Such join'd unended links, each hook'd to the next, Each answering all, each sharing the Earth with all..." ok that was Walt Whitman, but doesn't he have something of the CS spirit?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Glasgow, 2006: 2 wonderful girls, great party, very welcoming.

Edinbrugh, 2006: Very welcoming as well, very nice guy.

Interests

Food and wine, aesthetics, classical music, cooking, scotch whisky, to feed the ducks with little pieces of ginger bread, social sciences, international development and human rights, psychology, art, photography...

Music, Movies, and Books

Many. Here are some of my favourites. Movie: Dead Poets Society. Music: Beethoven's 9th, Tristan & Isolde. Books: War and Peace, Le Petit Prince.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Doing a condom demonstration in front of a hundred Ugandan teenagers under a mango tree. The funniest of all, I believe. Play the solo flute in the Cathedral of Notre Dame at the age of 11, and for the national TV a year later. Play the Didgeridoo with Massai musicians in a Kenyan village. Scuba diving in Seychelles. Manage to cook 10 dishes for about 300 people, and win the contest!

Teach, Learn, Share

To learn: languages (Portugese, German & Italian in particular), and anything you are passionate about! What I can teach, or at least share: Cooking. French wine and Scotch whisky. Flute and Didgeridoo. Sailing. Humour!

Countries I’ve Visited

Antigua and Barbuda, Austria, Bulgaria, Cabo Verde, Czech Republic, Egypt, Germany, Guadeloupe, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Saint Lucia, Seychelles, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States
