ABOUT ME

I am right here with you. Staring into the mirror, tears falling in waves and heart beating broken - lost as fuck. Walking through with our wounds exposed and we don't know how to make them any better. See the blood seeping through our skin, dumb down the pain with alcohol, drugs, meaningless kisses, sex, some rock and roll, and it's almost enough. Halfhearted we pretend that we are rock hard, incapable of feeling, devaluing emotion because it's only for the weak. When faced with solitude there is an immediate self-evaluation that occurs - an honest discussion of truth and the lies that we've told ourselves. Paradoxes within hypocrites, where both light and dark exist. Where crazy, beautiful, and ugly come together in a complex mixture of extremely fucked up and all of this we can admit. We sound it off, spell it out for them to hear, to understand because we know you and me and we aren't afraid to make it known that we are less than perfect. We say it out right, with a pocket full of laughter and a playful smile we declare our humanity.

Did I mention that I don't take myself too seriously?

PHILOSOPHY

EAT. I eat all of the good food: gambas coated with roasted garlic, greens soaked in coconut milk, duck browned to perfection.
CONNECT. I connect: speak to different people, take in the language, talk politics and corruption, spend money, understand - I listen. I reconnect: with friends, lost loved ones, sanctuaries, and family.
LOVE. I fall in love, it is bitter and sweet, intelligent and stupid - with these beautiful people and cities and towns and experiences.
LEARN. I flutter about, spend my time, learn my lessons - they have their own reasons and seasons. They heal me, they break me, console me, and keep me. They are rough and gentle, harsh and inviting. They bring out the best and worst in me.
FEEL. The acid mood swings in traffic, tranquil songs at the beach, conversation over cold beer, harsh reality, tears while laughing, walking in the rain, long roads and irresponsible driving, compassion for the needy, dislike for the apathy, whole books in hurricane weather, twelve hour slumbers, forty-eight hour libraries, quirky, crazy me.
PHILOSOPHIZE. They make me question, they give me answers, and more questions. They confuse me and use me and want me to hate me if only to teach me to love me.
TRAVEL. They are soul-givers and thrill-seekers, they are my horny-all-night-and-day-in-your-face-high-on-crack-bursting-with-life lovers in the heaven that is life.

Music, Movies, and Books

MOVIES:

"Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset"
For the spontaneity, the honest conversation, the beautiful connection, the romance, anticipation, disappointment, and painful recollections.

"City of God" and "Y Tu Mama Tambien"
For the fucked up reality, the bullshit childhood fantasies, the idealism and realism, the corruption, the megalomania, and the passion in these low-budget visual expressions. Fucking brilliant.

"Closer" and "Revolutionary Road"
For the resilience of the human spirit and the necessity to nourish and protect it.

MUSIC:
Soul. Etta James, Sam Cooke, Smokey Robinson.
Reggae. Bob Marley, UB40.
Classical. Piano concertos, movie scores, ballets.
The Beatles. Nirvana. Fleetwood Mac. U2. Aerosmith.

BOOKS:
"A Million Little Pieces"
Because we've all got our own fair share of addictions.
"The Beach"
Because Paradise isn't all its cracked up to be.
"Siddhartha"
Because we want to know our selves.
"The Perks of Being a Wallflower"
Because peer pressure and fitting in are things that we all go through - at some point in our lives.
"Mental Fight"
Because the battle usually comes from within.
"The Chronicles of Narnia"
