Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm a huge fan of connecting with people and sharing experiences and hope that Couchsurfing may be a new way to do this while travelling.

Interests

Besides being an international politics buff, I'm keenly interested in literature and literary theory. While I have a familiarity with the classics my passion is in poetry: Sufi poetry, Irish poetry, and poetry in translation.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a fan of media that can confront serious issues while staying essentially light-hearted.

Some examples (in music, movies, and books respectively) are the Flobots, Inglorious Basterds, and Rushdie's Satanic Verses.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I accidentally climbed a Himalayan mountain in India. I went out for a morning walk for some fresh air and six hours later was at the top of Triund by Dharamsala. I'm still not sure entirely what compelled me to take this on without any preparation or planning, but it was an incredible experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm always down for a good discussion about any number of topics, from the easy weather and career to the difficult politics and religion. I have a varied base of knowledge and experiences so I'm sure we can find something engaging to learn from each other.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like to think I'm a pretty good storyteller with enough bizarre experiences and chance encounters from parts of the world that are interesting and exciting to fellow experience-seekers.
I would also be willing to share anything in my backpack; I travel light but I'm not selfish or stingy with what I carry!
