About Me

I am an academic running an education not-for-profit which runs a number of free graduate-level programs. You can read more about that, and me, here: www.unbindingprometheus.org

I travel a lot for work, and have a nice circle of friends around Philadelphia, South Jersey and central New Jersey.
I'm happy to meet new people, especially those who are interested in art, poetry, progressive politics, environmental issues and social justice issues. I enjoy cooking, so it's fun to have new people to cook for. I enjoy listening to people's stories and learn about the different ways people experience the world around them.

My place is not huge---a one bedroom with a small hall study that sometimes doubles as a second bedroom. However, it has a decent library, and if you like books, well my home is well-stocked with those.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am traveling across the US and Canada recording free educational videos on Walt Whitman which feature scholars, poets, and people who did the jobs Walt Whitman did (teacher, printer, journalist, nurse, housebuilder). The cost of staying in hotels all the time would be prohibitively high, but also I love to meet new people and learn about their parts of the world from their perspectives. You can learn more about the project I run here: https://www.unbindingprometheus.org/whitman

I think it is important to give as well as to get in life, and so I'd like to allow some people the chance to stay here overnight for free when they are travelling in the area.

I'm a really good cook! If you want me to cook for you, let me know. Also, if you want to talk about poetry and literature, I'm your man. Also- I''ve lived almost half my life in the UK, so if you have questions about Britain (especially in the late 20th C., when I lived there) go ahead and ask away.
