Recounting our recent coast-to-coast drive and appreciating the CouchSurfing experiences we had along the way
ABOUT ME
Our story: We met twelve years ago, when Kristin was a student in Eric's Intro to Shakespeare class. We've been together ever since, as Mr. and Mrs since we eloped to a Monastery to be married two years ago.
Personal tidbits, let's see: Kristin very much enjoys vintage fashions. Favorite items include: a 1930's pancake hat; large sunglasses; bolero jackets. It is yet to be determined how these garments will hold up on a 40 day cross-country road-trip.
Eric, in addition to writing non-fiction, is interested in multimedia art (check out www.ericlemay.org). He's sometimes muses about making a movie some day. He always has holes in his pockets from his blue bic pens.
To get a sense of what we're like in person, feel free to check out this short video of us talking about the cheese book we wrote: www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4NGFtBnjM4
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We can't wait to begin couch surfing-- It sounds like an incredible way to see this country: not through the lobbies of bland hotels the same the world over, but through the living rooms and lives of real people.
Interests
After a lifetime of city dwelling (Chicago, Boston, NY, Paris), we recently moved to small-town, Appalachian Ohio. We love it, and our interests have definitely shifted because of this change in locale. While we still love seeing dance and live theater and art museums, we're now learning (and loving) the pleasures of the natural world. A big day: we identified ramps in the woods! Another big day: we saw a baby turtle.
We're generally interested in food & wine, literature, art, culture of all sorts (dance, music, history), film. Friday Night Lights (guilty pleasure) briefly made us think for a moment that we might like sports. Nope.

Music, Movies, and Books
Eric studied to be a scholar of Renaissance lit, but his most recent book is on cheese. Kristin studied French literature, but has written a book on Emily Dickinson. Leave it to say our taste in books (those we read and those we write) is somewhat eclectic.
Music-wise, we have a prediliction for Johnny Cash and Edith Piaf, and film-wise, we're slightly embarrassed to admit we both love cheesy action movies.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
For our last book project, we flew to France, drove across the Jura mountains, and climbed in the snow to the top of a mountain named after a cheese, simply because it was named after a cheese. Seriously, Vacherin Mont d'Or is that good.
Teach, Learn, Share
Kristin cooks up some good Indian food and Eric is a wizard with eggs.
