About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Travel more, enjoy more, eat the best food.
ABOUT ME
I graduated with degrees in International Relations, Public Policy and Management and, after working in the state government for a few years, am now managing the HR and admin responsibilities for a small research lab and the large university that it works in partnership with. It's a perfectly fine job but not one that I'm deeply in love with. I do love to read, sketch, and occasionally write a little here and there.
I LOVE to travel, & I caught the travel bug early. I've been to England, Ireland, Paris, Spain, Morocco, Australia, Hong Kong, Finland and Greece and just about every state east of the Mississippi, plus Montana and Colorado.
Fall 2017 I added Belize, Honduras and Mexico to the list and now I'm thinking of South America more. I visited Iceland in January (it was actually warmer than at home!) but cloudy skies meant there were no Northern Lights :( I'm planning to do Peru: Lima & Machu Picchu in October 2018.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Only surfing at the moment, my housemates aren't really comfortable with surfers. BUT once I have a place to call my own I'll be paying it back
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Once took a cross country road trip from New York to Denver and back- couchsurfed all the way out and met some great people. It was really nice to see that Americans are as good at and as supporting of couchsurfing thing as the other people around the world I've surfed with before!
May 2014 involved an epic round-the-world return from Australia to the US including couchsurfing stays in Hong Kong, Prague, London, Birmingham, and Helsinki. All awesome places, all great people; Prague, Hong Kong, and Helsinki were all new stops and definitely places I'd like to revisit!
Had an awesome experience when I first moved to Australia and I'm been sold on the idea since then.
Interests
Art; I paint, sketch, play with ceramics and on the wheel when I have the opportuinty
I love to Cook, and am always looking for new recipes and styles
And I'm getting increasingly crafty as I go. I've finished three(!) quilts using recycled material and I'm in the (perpetual) middle of a number of other sewing projects. I made myself a pair of fuzzy housesocks this winter!

Music, Movies, and Books
Books: I love Tamora Pierce and have read every books she's ever written; Amelia Atwater-Rhodes' books (hit and miss on a few); and I'm slowly working my way through the Animorphs since I never finished the series when I was a kid. I do read grown up books too but they tend to be more along the lines of "boring" non-fiction
Movies: Disney, Watership Down, James Bond, The Professional is one of my all time favorites... unlike books, I generally don't want movies to make me think. Hercule Pirot and Angela Lansbury (on TV) are about the only 'psychological' things I can take. Sometimes crime/police dramas are ok CSI (the original) and Law & Order are always quality. And of course, the Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy, etc. Oh and Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert are my go-to news source.
Music: Is harder. I like a lot of classic rock but really, I'll listen to just about anything when I'm in the mood but I'm terrible with names/titles/lyrics and can almost never identify anything!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
-I got to go swimming with Manatees off the Florida coast; super cool and the most exciting thing I've gotten to do in a while!
-A bottle of wine on the beach while the sun set behind the 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road in Australia. Just amazing
Teach, Learn, Share
idek. I seem to have these conversations where I remember random facts but I don't know that being a "random fact store house" is something I can teach.
That said, I'm always willing to try something new, so if you have something to teach: teach!
Oh-crocheting! I can crochet and I can (try) to teach that.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Good conversation, appreciation of local food and culture, genuine interest in any historical facts or local sights you want to show off.
