ABOUT MYSELF :::
I'm Erica Yin, but my friends called me 'JOY' just because I have a super wide smile, always in a good mood and know how to have a good time.

I'm a Chinese and Buddhist girl who was born in 1993. I praticed meditation since 2011 (still praciting until now) and it made me have really good temper. I'm friendly, talkative, laugh really loud, and smile often. If you think that Indonesian will never be ontime, you are wrong! I'm punctual! But the most important is I'm an open minded person, easy going, independent and always curious to know more. As a very optimistic person, even on a rainy days I have no problem finding a silver lining.

My friends always say that I always makes every situation memorable and being with me feels like a vacation. They said I won all hearts and sympathies because I got engaging personality. In my friends and some strangers opinion, I am living a healthly and responsible life. I've always got control over myself, know exactly what I want in life and always reach my goals. I am my friends' biggest support system because I always there for them. My friends rely on my merciless honest opinion and they admire my incredible endurance. They said I have undefeatable affection and unlimited goodwill flowing through me. I am honest, direct, and always full of enchanting love which I want to share with people around me. Its no suprise that people see love when they look into my eyes!

I love to listening to musics, travelling, singing, writing and take photos. I'm a coffee lover. Books are my favorite stuffs and I could spend all my time with them!

In my free time, I will do social activities/charity/volunteering such as give Free health care, free education, build a bridge, feeding a homeless and so on. Hopefully my presence in this world is to help more, to make more people happier, to bridge more, to benefit also inspire more people to do good and right things. The most important make this world a better place to live for all beings.

For living, I used to work as a math, physics and chemistry private tutor also part time Buddhist Teacher at International School in Medan. On saturday and sunday, I'll be busy with teaching orpahange kids and Buddhist sunday school or volunteering at Buddhist/Social Community. No wonder, it because my passion is teaching and for education. I've been teaching since I was 15 years old. Now I'm doing my PhD studies.

I love travelling of course - solo backpacker. I'm tidy, well-planned, but very open to new things. I'll come with plan but its always ended up with local suggestions. So, I've never have fixed plans because everything's change when I met locals! As a nature lovers, I really love and proud to have Indonesia as my homeland because Indonesia have a lot beautiful nature that makes me amazed.

About the religion, I'm a Buddhist. But I really appreciate other religions. I believe about Karma. I'm sure, appreciate other beliefs are the same as appreciate our own beliefs. I admire Buddha as a true role model. May I become at all times, both now and forever: a protector for those without protection; a guide for those who have lost their way; a ship for those with oceans to cross; a bridge for those with rivers to cross; a sanctuary for those in danger; a lamp for those without light; a place of refuge for those who lack shelter; and a servant to all in need.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

1. Because I love travelling and making friends. And Because there are thousands of "hello"s in this world, so, I want to know them. I want to get in contact with new people, exchange experiences about different countries, languages and to discover cultural differences and like them! I want to meet awesome people and see places through local eyes. I have met so many amazing friends travelling and done so many things I would never had a chance to do staying in a hotel.

2. I would like my house to be an open space and a good place to cross paths. I host and surf as well. I show my city: the tourist places and my secret corners!

3. If I cannot visit the world now, I think the world should visit me! Woo-Hoo!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A bit difficult only one, so I'll tell you amazing things that I've done so far :
1. Helping others through the humanitarian program that I run.

2. Being educator. Educate and give serious attention to education, especially for children who have economic difficulties.

3. Being Vegetarian. This is the most amazing thing that I've done in my life. I loves food, meats are delicious but I realized that it's from somebody's body, they felt pain and killed so I can't eat them. I'm praticing loving-kindness & compassion. Being vegetarian not is the only way of course, but for me it's one of the way!

4. Overcome my fear of heights by hike the mountains as often as possible. Now I'm totally not afraid of heights.

5. Overcome my phobia of the sea, ocean, beach and all things water. I was traumatized when I was child and I've managed to beat through my trips to the beach and the ocean by boat and snorkeling.

6. Overcome my phobia of dogs! Yes! I might say my fear of dogs has been reduced. Who would have thought that a girl who had been screaming and jumping on table and chair everytime she saw dogs, finally ended up with adopting a dog!
