About Me
Hello! My name is Erick and I am an avid traveller that really enjoys to have meaningful conversations and connections with people.
I was born and raised on the Pacific coast of Mexico, in a town called Puerto Vallarta. While other Mexicans would probably disagree with me, I come from the state (Jalisco) where all of the good things from Mexico are from (mariachis, tequila, and overall folclore).
I moved to Montreal when I was 17 and it was probably one of the best decisions I ever made. I am happy to call Montréal my home (maybe less so in the Winter lol!).
Having grown up with two identities (Mexican and Canadian), I have always been looking to understand the interaction that different cultures have on me, which has only been possible through meeting people and understanding who they are and where they come from. I like to describe myself as a very easygoing person that has the warmth and welcomeness of a Mexican and the politeness of a Canadian!
I am a also huge music aficionado. I love to experience live music and attend as many concerts as I can. I do have formal training in music, which is why I appreciate it so much. I love to sing (but that does not necessarily mean I do it well!! lol).
I studied Political Science and Development in University which will hopefully eventually lead me to a meaningful career in public service or diplomacy. What I do have certain is that I want my job to help people out as it is probably the thing that comes the easiest to me.
While I don't believe in zodiac signs that much, I once read something about Virgos that I really felt represented me: "the mission of Virgo is to make sure the world is healthy and functioning properly – Virgo is here to make sure everything is working, not that the world is perfect."
A couple of random things about me that represent my energy:
- I can rarely laugh without clapping my hands
- When I brush my teeth I absolutely need to walk around or at the very least look out a window
- I love strong flavours
I currently work for the ministry of Transportation as an Issue Manager. So, yes, I am very good under pressure and a quick thinker!
I would consider myself an extrovert that gets reenergized by people but I also might take some time to warm up to someone.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
One of the driving forces in my life is to always make sure I try something new and push the limits of comfort zone. This has really brought me to where I am today and, honestly, I have always been pleasantly surprised of the amazing things that can come out of following this mantra.
I have come to know how the world is full of sincere and extremely interesting people, which I want to get to know! I strongly believe that giving quality time to friends and future friends is the best way to get to know them. I feel this is a challenge when travelling because of how fast-paced or passing everything is. Couchsurfing is an amazing way to get past this hurdle and get to know people in a more meaningful way. After all, in my culture, there is no greater honour that to be invited into someone's house.

Music, Movies, and Books
Favourites are always a tricky thing for me. This always changes and always depends on what is going on in my life at the moment.
Currently, I am really into rock (Muse, Paramore, Linkin Park). But I have favourites in any genre...
A movie that really left a mark on me was Nocturnal Animals (a beautifully disturbing movie). I am also a sucker for musicals, one of my favourite ones being La La Land.
Current favourite book: Midnight Library by Matt Haig.
What I Can Share with Hosts
If I am in your town, it is very likely that I will want to go out to dance! That being said, that means I will be happy to share with you some basic Latin dancing steps :)
My friends consider me their go-to person for any problem or issue they have, so feel free to let me know if I can help you out or at the very least provide a listening ear.
I can also promise great conversation on literally any subject.
I am also the perfect audience for comedians as I am someone who loves to laugh. It’s very easy for me to understand different types of humour so feel free to tell me your worst joke - it’ll most likely crack me up!
I am a very mindful person, so if I have the honour of staying with you, it will be my pleasure to help you out in any way I can!
