About Me

I love learning new things, trying new foods and going new places. I enjoy sci-fi shows, bicycling, hiking, reading, and spending time with friends. In the last 8 months, I have invented around 50 things, though I have only made prototypes for about 5 of them.

My sister rents the upstairs from me, but she is a really cool person who loves meeting new people.

Also, I have memorized all the countries of the world, their capitals, and their flags, can memorize long numbers permanently in less than a minute, walk a 10 ft tightrope (50% of the time), and sing karaoke fearlessly.

And I have chickens!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I intend to do some traveling, and I figure while I'm at it I might as well meet interesting new people and stay at cool places. Plus I'm super cheap.

Very soon, I won't be able to offer accommodations to anyone, as my parents sold their house and are moving in with me until they find a new one, but after that I have a spare bedroom and couple of couches.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like all music except new country. My favorite genre right now is electronica, followed by alt rock of all kinds, hip-hop, and classical.
Inglorious Basterds, Princess Bride, Die Hard (all of them), Conan the Barbarian, X-men (all of them), The Lord of the Rings (all of them), and Indian Jones (all of them). Also, all the Star Wars and Star Trek movies (except Star Trek V- it just plain sucks).
Books: a Song of Ice and Fire series (the Game of Thrones books), The Lord of the Rings series, The Hobbit, The Simarillion, The Intelligent Investor, Emerging Real Estate Markets, and The Lies of Locke Lamora.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once kayaked from the San Juan Islands to Canada...alone...on a moonless night...

It was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had, with the phosphorescence coming off my paddles with every stroke, the endless stars above and only the blackness of Sidney Island and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore to let me know where I was.

Very dangerous and pretty stupid, but totally magical.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: Tightrope walking, handstands, number memorization techniques, real estate investing, value investing, chicken care, the NATO phonetic alphabet, some German (I know about 700 words), how to eat a ketogenic diet
Learn: more German, grammar specifically (I know none), guitar playing (I have a guitar but no skills), about new places, and how to do new things
Share: My couch, my spare room, my library, eggs, bread

What I Can Share with Hosts

Info on any number of subjects, including nutrition, intermittent fasting, sprint 8s, single-family real estate investing, value investing, etc. Comradery, and a willingness to clean up after myself (and others, to a certain extent).
