Overview
About Me
Howdy, My name is Erin!
A little about me:
I am currently working as a wildland firefighter in Arkansas, looking to do some traveling for the next few months. When I'm not playing with fire, I can be found reading, doing research (I am hoping to get into graduate school for evolutionary biology with an emphasis on kin recognition/selection :), hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, rock climbing, or trying to play the guitar. If its an outdoor activity, you can find me there :)
Past jobs include seasonal stints on trail crews in Colorado, and being a handywoman/wrangler at a horse stables.
Life is lived to the fullest when you learn as much as possible wherever you end up. Travel is a wonderful facilitator for learning a wide variety of things and meeting some great people when doing so.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm here to make local connections and learn about whichever place I end up on a level deeper than the surface. Hopefully, these connections will result in an exchange of knowledge, ideas and skills on both ends.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: pretty much anything, depends on the mood. From punk rock (The Hives), alt rock (Unlikely Candidates), western/country/bluegrass (the Dead South, Turnpike Troubadours)... A very wide range.
Movies: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and 180 degrees South-inspiration to get out and travel :), Les Choristes, Bohemian Rhapsody
Books: The Count of Monte Cristo, The Revenant (yes, it was a book first), anything by Edward Rutherfurd, and the works of Oscar Wilde. I am a huge British Literature fan... Historical fiction is probably my top genre right now, but any history is usually good. Anything to take a break from reading scientific papers!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Assisted in some ground-breaking research concerning acoustic kin recognition with bottlenose dolphins!
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach: I am always down to take people climbing! Outdoor, indoor, bouldering, sport climbing... I got ya as a belayer or spotter (I worked at a rock gym for a few years, and have been climbing for over five years if you're skeptical:) . If that's not your jam, I am always down to talk hardcore mammalogy or marine biology. As one who majored in Forestry, plants are a good subject too. I can teach a song or two on the guitar and more on a piano...
Learn: I am up for learning as much as possible with the time I have on this planet! I believe any skill is a good one to learn, and having a wide variety of knowledge/skills in your pocket is the best way to live. From cooking to ecology to rollerskating to burning the forest... Anything offered is useful.
Share: Life experiences/views, goals, and ideas.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share stories from my life/experience, skills I've picked up along the way, and good book recommendations :). As I hail from Texas, possibly some salsa as well...
