About Me

I've just graduated from university and I'm waiting on the results for a language and culture exchange program I signed up for which starts late this year. In the meantime, I'd like to go see a bunch of new places.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I went on my first ever backpacking trip this past December, around south and central Thailand. I stayed in hostels and got to know other travellers I met there, which was fun because I got to meet people from many different places, but I realised I hardly spoke to any locals the entire trip. I'm hoping to get to know the places I visit more meaningfully by spending time with local hosts and new friends.

Interests

Live music is my jam, I’d love to visit any good local spots! I’m into acoustic/pop/jazz/blues/funk/math rock, pretty much anything but edm

Just got into bouldering last year and have been climbing on and off. I’d be down to go climb at a gym together!

I like learning new languages, mostly because it feels like encountering a whole new world each time. I’ve tried learning a few different languages like French, German, Thai, and Singapore Sign Language, but the ones that are sticking are Korean and Spanish. I understand Korean pretty well, and can form simple sentences, just from consuming so much Korean media as a teenager. My Spanish, however, is at more of a beginner level — I can catch a few words here and there and use context clues to guess. Would love to learn bits of the local language, and if you’re interested in learning Mandarin I’d be happy to help!

Music, Movies, and Books

All-time favourite book has to be Jon Krakauer's Into the Wild, which I ended up writing my undergraduate thesis on. A movie I always come back to is Lilo and Stitch, and I like a lot of different types of music, but right now John Mayer is probably the guy I listen to the most. Went for his concert in Amsterdam this March!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like playing the guitar (mostly just chords) and singing, would be fun to jam together!
