ABOUT ME

hello hello!
i'm driven by my curiosity about life and the universe, and i look forward to each lesson life brings.
i am fun and sometimes funny. i like to eat, dance, do yoga, bike, and talk about most things.
for work, i teach yoga and sometimes do voice over art. Also, I'm taking some science classes in preparation for a graduate school app. wish me luck!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

i have surfed on two couches; see the recommendation below. traveling throughout europe, i've stayed in hostels, hotels, and with a host family. i've also done air bnb. now, i'm interested in exploring couch surfing more. looking forward to things going well!

Music, Movies, and Books

films: i don't watch many movies these days, what with work + teaching yoga + school. but i have eclectic taste when I do, and don't really have any favorites. i'm down for the indie films and can get into the occasional terrence malick piece. i enjoy sci fi, and depending on my mood, thoroughly enjoy both dark and romantic comedies. i'll make the occasional exception for an anchorman or 21 jump street. action, drama, whatever, i'm down. love quintin terrantino, spike lee, and (forgive me) woody allen films. oh, and those movies about being black in america (soul food, tyler perry anything, we own the night, friday, etc.) are my jam. the only hang up i have is scary movies. i avoid shit like the ring, any exorcism anything, texas chainsaw massacre, etc (you can tell by the movies i named that i haven't seen a scary one in a while). i can do flicks like signs or the village, though.

books: parable of the sower! besides that, no favorites, really. lately, i've been listening to a lot of audio books, since my commute to work has gotten drastically longer. Mostly sci-fi or self-development (really fake or really real!) I'm also into (fiction & non-) about the effects of slavery and colonialism on today's marginalized populations: pathologies of power, the brief & wondrous life of oscar wao, post traumatic slave syndrome, critical race theory. it's been difficult, maddening, and inspiring.

music: i grew up on the radio and plan to always listen to it. i love a lot of music and have eclectic taste. i'm down with anything from animal collective to kanye, as long as i can bang to it from my boom box.
but lately, i've been obsessed with kendrick lamar, and i'm (late, but still) getting into beirut.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

i lived in a zen buddhist temple for 7 months.
