About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Find out what/who I'm looking for and they're probably both overseas :)
ABOUT ME
When I was 14, my family moved to Budapest (for my father's work) and this is when I realised that I was meant to live abroad. Since finishing my studies (when I was 21) I've lived and worked in England, Ireland and Germany with now the goal to spend at least a few years in Japan (a dream I've had for more 10 years and that I've been postponing for way too long). I tend to stay a few years in a country and then just try to find what language I would like to learn next. As my time in Berlin is coming to an end, I've intensified my study of the (awesome) Japanese language. Hopefully I'll make this dream come true :)
PHILOSOPHY
I abide by a couple of simple principles: "do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself" and "it is better to have tried and failed than to have failed to try".
I do believe that there is no point in pondering forever "what if" but to just try if you have the chance to. If I were to fail, I would just learn as much as possible from my mistake/failure and build upon it.
Other than that, one can always expect me to be honest and can ask me ANY questions as I don't consider anything to be taboo or embarrassing (but I will not assume that the same goes for my interlocutor).
Music, Movies, and Books
My top favourite films are : Lost in Translation, Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. I usually watch them once a year and often try to find people who have seen and appreciated them as it always leads to great conversations.
Other than those, I of course love myself some Ghiblis, Pixar, light-hearted comedies, blockbusters, good old classics and a fair share of series/animes (Arrested Development, Coupling, Black Books, Cowboy Bebop, Six Feet Under, etc.).
If I had to name my one band, it would be "Sigur Ros". You've probably heard at least one of their tracks once but most of their discography is bliss to my ears. If one band ever embodied the saying "Music is how feelings sound like", this would be them. Apart from that, I listen to mainly rock/pop (Sarah Blasko, some Foo Fighters, Eric Clapton, Metric and a big long "etc.") along with some Pink Martini and I'm not afraid to admit that I do enjoy some Japanese/Korean pop ;)
Book-wise, I regularly re-read the classic "1984", have fallen love with a French book "La Horde du Contrevent" (unfortunately untranslatable as it plays so much with the language), have read my share of fantasy books (Robin Hobb's Royal Assassin and Martin's Song of Ice and Fire) while reading classics every now and then (e.g. "Le Comte de Monte Cristo" by Dumas). My reading is mainly based on recommendations rather than self-discovery (as I tend to do it with films) and my book time has lately (and regrettably) been eaten up by my study of Japanese.
