ABOUT ME

I am currently studying Arabic in Fes, Morocco. I should be studying right now but am choosing to add info to my profile while stealing internet. I fill my time with class, the occasional pool game at the Broadway cafe, and I just purchased a ping pong net and paddles. Which should provide hours of studying avoidance. I love living in Fes, despite the regular bouts of boredom. Other interests include The Office, musical theatre (don't judge me), your mom jokes in various languages, and poker games.

PHILOSOPHY

La shokra ala wajeeb. It's how you say "you're welcome" in Morocco. It literally means, "No thanks for duty." I think it's the best possible way to look at doing good deeds. Anything worthy of a thank you. It's my duty, I'm here to help. Tell me what I can do.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am brand new to couch surfing. Come stay with me! I am positively giddy over the thought of being able to show people Fes. And if you just want me to leave you the hell alone and let you explore, I can do that too.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have yet to couch surf, but my friend Sofia told me about the project. I love it! I'm excited about the couch surfers who will soon be visiting me. They sound fantastic. And I'll be staying with someone in Madrid, and am still blown away by the fact that I sent her an e-mail and she's opening her home to me. I feel as if my faith in humanity is being restored. One couch at a time.

Interests

I am interested in you! Seriously, I like to hear people's stories. Tell me of your travels. I am big on stories. I love telling them and hearing them. Thus my other interests - theater, film and literature. I'm a big fan. Speaking of stories, ask me about the time I stalked Matt Damon in Rabat. Good times. Other interests include music (I love to sing karaoke), museums, kickboxing, Steve McQueen, Trivial Pursuit, and your mom.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love The Office. And Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Movies: The Great Escape, Cool Hand Luke, The Dirty Dozen, Die Hard, The Untouchables, The Godfather. Music: The Lucksmiths, The Police, Ben Folds, Sondre Lerche, U2, Cake, Paul Simon, Get Set Go. And I love to sing Britney Spears and Bon Jovi when drunk. Books: Currently reading Sons and Lovers by D.H. Lawrence. I heart Jane Austen. Kite Runner recently blew me away. I also read Eat, Pray, Love and enjoyed it. 4

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I ate in a Mexican restaurant once in Bahrain called Senor Paco's (thanks Brian for reminding me of the name). The restaurant was run by a Filipino family, and was a popular spot for U.S. Marines to eat. I was feeling fairly homesick that day. Then, as I ate dinner, an Indian man started playing the guitar and singing "American Pie." And the entire restaurant joined in singing. A bunch of Americans, and Indian and a handful of Filipinos singing a Don McLean song in the Middle East, while eating enchiladas. It was amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can help you out with some basic Arabic. Survival French, maybe. If you need some help with a theater production, I'm your girl. I've acted, directed, done tech, you name it. I can edit papers for you, if you happen to have something due after your visit to my couch. I can teach you to play Texas Hold'em. I can teach you some fairly dirty jokes, just don't tell anyone you learned them from me. I would love for someone to teach me that stupid bar game with the clapping and the guessing of the names of famous people. I still have no idea how that works.
